In 1915, John Davenport constructed a water tower that still stands today as one of downtown Phoenix's most recognizable landmarks. A post office was established at Parker in 1917, and it remained in operation until it closed on July 8, 1934 due to lack of mail volume from residents within the valley during World War II. In 1959, David Sorenson opened Parkers Stores Inc., one of Denver's first drive-in cinemas located just east of I-25 on E Union St.. Parkers also served as home to PepsiCola Canada before that company moved its headquarters to Quebec City following deregulation there in 1984. The last movie theater to be operated by Parkers Stores Inc., The Beverly Cinema (now known as Regal Cinemas), closed its doors December 6th 2009 after more than 40 years service in downtown Phoenixville Plaza mall across from American Express Theatre chain location - Blockbuster Video had already vacated their property two weeks earlier when they were unable to meet lease terms with Regal Cinemas landlords Arizona State University Sunsgate Center Mall and MesaVerde Community College District campus). Parkers Stores Inc.'s final days were marked by an unprecedented display of support for local independent businesses - employees staged a walk out over pay rates that had increased 50%, twice what they received nationally while profits declined 15%. On December 12th 2009 the last movie projector inside parker stores went off line; this event marks end of an era for this once vibrant community which has since seen significant gentrification taking place around it along Aurora Boulevard between First & Commerce Streets SE
