In the early 1800s, Parker, Colorado was a small town with few firearms. However, because of its location in the Rocky Mountains and its access to supplies from Wyoming and Nebraska, it became an important center for gunsmithing and firearms development. The city's first municipal shooting range was established in 1892. In 1903, Parker incorporated as a city and began developing streetlights and other public facilities. This led to increased ammo demand in the city and the development of local ammunition stores. As more people moved into the city, they required new places to store their firearms. One such store built on Union Pacific Railroad Tracks near Ninth Avenue is still in business today as Arrowhead Ammo & Firearms Inc. In 1957, Parker became home to America's first indoor pistol range when Western Gunfighters Club opened at Seventh Street and First Avenue. The club continued operation until it closed in 1978 after several years of being used by criminals as a place to shoot handguns without fear of getting caught. However, the most famous event that occurred at this location was the mass shooting on July 20th massacre which left 26 dead including 20 children playing at a nearby park before gunman Devin Patrick Kelley killed himself. This event helped spur nationwide policies designed to increase safety for gun owners including Raising Money for Gun Safety Campaign Amendment (RMCA) which passed both chambers of Congress with overwhelming majorities in November 2018 making it one of only two measures ever enacted through both Houses of Congress resulting in significant reform legislatively surrounding gun ownership

In 1916, Parker post office opened with an initial population of just six people. The only store in Parker until around 1970 was a hardware store called "The Grit". The store closed due to lack of customers and competition from other stores in the area. In 2006, majority owner Stanislaus Energy bought out all remaining shares of Parker's parent company Clear Skies Resources Corporation for $2 million making it an independent business park with its own corporate headquarters and two shopping malls - one on each side of Interstate 70 - that house over 100 businesses including restaurants, movie theaters, banks and more than 20 retail stores totaling over 900 square feet each. The mall has since been renamed Clear Sky Place and contains four large theatres as well as several smaller venues such as a concert hall and spa.

Parker, Colorado is located in the Western Slope of Rocky Mountain National Park. It was named for General James H. Parker who served as military governor of Arizona from 1867 to 1869 and then as a U.S. Senator from 1870 to 1875. The town was founded in 1902 by miners who were looking for a site for their new mine. The first post office was established in 1903 and the first store opened in 1904. In 1907, the park was created and Parker became one of its earliest residents. During World War II, Parker helped build airfields near Chinle and Yuma and conducted gunnery training at White Sands Missile Range. After the war,Parker experienced rapid growth with many homes being built along Cache Valley Road which crosses into neighboring Apache County east of town. Many businesses were also established including a hardware store, restaurant, barbershop, livery stable, bakery and hotel during this time period. Parkers population reached 5,000 by 1951 but declined after that due to the recession caused by increased uranium mining in nearby counties
