Parker is a small town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 3,390 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Parker was George Aiken who arrived in 1872. Parker's first post office opened in 1875. The name "Parker" was chosen for its central location and beauty on the edge of a valley that stretched from Park to Fruita and east to Centennial Hills. In 1911, Parker became a county seat when Douglas County was created from Adams and Weymouth counties. In 1907, pioneer Jens Jensen settled near what is now the park boundary between Park and Fruita with his family consisting of five children: Myron (1905-1992), Jane (1907-1996), Lars (1910-1997), Norma (1913-2000) and Peggy (1920-2004). Mr. Jensen began farming land on which he built a house that still stands today known as the "Jensen House". He also founded an agricultural school which still operates today as Parkland Community College. The town of Parker grew quickly due to its position within easy access to major markets such as Denver, Aurora, Lakewood, Centennial Hills and Westminster - all located within one day's drive - as well as its convenient location midway between Telluride and Aspen ski resorts. Highway 24 served as both local transportation artery and commercial center for early residents with businesses like groceries, hardware stores and other essential goods being transported by stagecoach or wagon train down Dawson Street into Centennial Hills or up Garden Road into Auraria Springs before being delivered by horse or buggy back home around dinner time each nightfall! Today’s downtown core contain several popular shops including Starbucks Coffee & Tea; Built By You Custom Home Builders; H&R Block; Applebees Tavern; Petsmart while portions of older buildings remain used for government services like Social Security Administration offices, libraries/museums/golf courses etc... Today’s downtown offers more than just shopping but also dining experiences like ABC’s Pizza Place which serves pizza oven made fresh daily right out front! There are also numerous small businesses scattered throughout the charming old growth neighborhoods that make up what once were single family homes located adjacent to grocery stores,...These days you will find farmers markets happening regularly throughout town along side craft breweries doing their thing peddling their latest products from trucks parked outside...the list goes on!

In 1881, the City of Parker was established in the northwestern corner of Colorado. The city was named for General John C. Fremont, who had served as an army general during the Mexican-American War and won a statewide victory against Mexico at the Battle of Bannockburn. The city grew rapidly due to its location on the railroad, and by 1907 there were more than 4,000 residents living in Parker. The commercial center of Parker became known as "the mecca of Westerns" because of its many theaters and movie studios that produced movies such as The Great Train Robbery (1912), Paths Of Glory (1914), Ben Hur (1959), and West Side Story (1998). In addition to its theater scene, Parker also played host to a number of important political events during the 1920s and 1930s. For example, Mayor George Wickersham helped lead efforts to install Denver's first Municipal Court in 1924 and he also served as mayor from 1933 until his death in 1941. During World War II, Parker hosted military installations such as Fort Carson which housed ballistics testing installations used to develop atomic weapons. In 1951, Parkers became home to Rocky Mountain News headquarters after they were moved from Denver. The paper continued publishing until 1996 when it merged with other papers within Hearst Corporation. Today, Parkers is considered an agricultural town with a population of around 2,500 people who live primarily off agriculture alone

The town grew quickly, and by 1903 it had a population of 1,500. By 1920, the population had increased to 3,000 and by 1930 it had reached 5,000. In 1940, Parker was renamed Denver after President Franklin D. Roosevelt as part of an effort to increase tourism in the city.
