Parker is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 513 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greeley-Aurora-Centennial metropolitan area. Parker was founded in 1871 by soldiers from Fort Lyon on the edge of the Rocky Mountains. The town was named for General Richard Parker (1786–1868), who fought in the Mexican War and led an army against Apache Chief John Custer. The first post office in Parker opened on October 4, 1871, and continued open until it closed on July 15, 1902. The first store in Parker was a grocery store owned and operated by Mrs. Fenton until she died in 1903. In 1911, there were only two homes in Parkersville and one resident lived outside of town limits; all other residents either worked or rented from farmers within their own community or from other towns within Weld County. In 1925, Parker had its first school which became the nucleus around which subsequent schools remain today: Birdie School (grades PreK-8), Elsie Riggs Elementary (grades K-5), Alice Ladd Middle School (6-8) & Parkersville High School (9-12). After years of wrangling over land donations to build new schools – including one that would sit atop a hill overlooking downtown – voters approved $290,000 towards construction of a new high school that would replace Birdie School and serve students from grades 9 through 12 as well as adult students attending nearby Arapaho Community College District campuses during term days when classes are not offered at those colleges or when they are held outside of normal business hours due to weather conditions affecting Boulder or Denver campuses statewide; this project commenced construction Fall 2006 with groundbreaking taking place January 2007 and finished Spring 2009 after being funded partially through State grant money also received for that purpose via concurrent appropriation Acts 2004 & 2008 respectively! Parker, Colorado is a town in Pueblo County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pueblo–Aurora metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1885 by George Parker and his wife Eliza Jane Parkinson. Parkers were pioneers in ranchers and cattle farming in the region around Pueblo. In 1907, George Parker donated land to create what would become the University of Colorado at Boulder campus. In 1911, he donated an additional piece of land to become downtown Parkersburg. In 1923, he donated another piece of land to create what became known as State Street between Main Avenue and Military Road (now Highway 6). This donation helped make Parkersburg one of the most cultural centers in southern Colorado Springs. The city's first library opened its doors on December 12th, 1886 with books from various libraries throughout the Rocky Mountains gathered together by Mrs. George Sibley (nee Beattie) who chaired a committee that collected books for storage and also managed tickets for borrowing from members of the public during regular library hours only which were 9am-5pm Monday-Fridayand 10am-4pm Saturday).
