Northglenn, Colorado is a small town in Weld County, Colorado. The population was 906 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Greeley-Aurora metropolitan area. Northglenn is located on the edge of the Rocky Mountains and bordered by Park City to the east, Loveland to the north, Aspen to the west, and Pueblo to the south. The first Europeans to visit what is now Northglenn were fur traders in 1805-6. George Catron established a post here in 1814 with about thirty people. A year later he founded Fort Hays with about fifty people and began trading goods with fur traders and prospectors in western Canada. In 1827 John Custer led his Seventh Cavalry through this area during their drive against Ulysses S Grant’s army at Black Hawk Hill and skirmished with Native Americans here near present day Northglenn. In 1865 General Ulysses S Grant named this locality for Major General John Nevin (1815-1868), Commander of Union forces during the Civil War from Missouri; then it was known as Montrose Station until 1890 when it changed its name again to honor General Nevin’s service hereabouts). The townsite had been surveyed by Captain James Fenton in 1861 but no buildings were erected until 1888 when a schoolhouse, post office, storeHOUSE&GARAGE were built on land donated by Mrs. Anna Laddis (the sister of Postmaster general Thurlow Weed). Two more stores followed before 1907 when an expressway connected Greeley and Aspen via Northglenn; these stores became known as “The Gables” because they fronted on Gable Street which ran perpendicular to Main Street today. In 1946 Northglenn became one of sixteen communities within The Great Western Air Lines system that merged into Denver-Boulder Airways; it continued as an independent community under that name until 2001 when it joined Boulder County government as part of that county’s reorganization following statehood in 2002..Today North Glens residents are served by both City Hall Annex #1 & Annex #2 located just east of I-25 Exit 24b off FM 719/I-5 exit 164 inside Pueblo while downtown Greeley services are offered by both Municipal Court Annex #1 & Annex #2 located across I-25 Exit 25a from Interstate 25 downtown off US 26
