Tasers first began to be used in Northglenn, Colorado on October 1, 1984. It was then that the city council passed a resolution to initiate the use of tasers as an alternative to physical punishment for juveniles. The city also decided that they would provide taser training for police officers and probationary officers. The first ever deployment of a Taser occurred in Northglenn on October 1, 1984. At that time, officer Rick Beamer used a Taser on 14-year-old Michael Cooke after he refused to stop fighting with his family members. Michael Cooke died from the effects of the Taser discharge. In 1986, Northglenn became one of the first cities in the United States to approve electronic C3I devices which could be worn by Officers while they are conducting their duties. In 1995, an agreement was made between Northglenn and King County Sheriff’s Office under which both agencies will share 2 patrol cars and 10 deputies each with the goal of reducing crime rates in Northwest Denver neighborhoods where there has been an increase in shootings involving law enforcement personnel. This agreement also calls for regular training by sheriff’s deputies on how to use tasers instead of using force when dealing with citizens who have become involved in criminal activity or resisted arrest techniques. In 2002, it was announced that King County had awarded $5 million dollars towards the purchase of 40 new identical stun guns which will be distributed among law enforcement agencies throughout Washington State as part of their “Smart Guns Program” initiative designed to reduce gun violence statewide by increasing officer safety through better communication and commandos response tactics

Northglenn, Colorado is a town in San Miguel County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. Northglenn is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Northglenn was James Hargrave in 1876. He and his brother built a log cabin on the edge of a small meadow that they named "Hargrave's Mesa." In 1880, Hargrave and his family moved to what is now south side of town from east side of town where they had been living for years before that. They started a small general store and post office which still stands today on Main Street near State High School. In 1902 when the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad came through Northglenn it created an instant boom as businesses sprang up all around the construction site of their new depot/ switching yard just north of town. Businesses like J C Meagher's grocery store (now known as Meagher's), Wm Sibley & Sons leather goods store (now known as Nordstrom), Rube Goldberg Laboratories (later renamed NORTHGLENN MECHANICAL LABORATORIES) and many more quickly grew into local legends in this burgeoning community Downtown Northglenn rapidly became one of the most lively business districts in Denver with hundreds of stores packed shoulder to shoulder on every block and storefronts open 24/7/365 . Prior to Interstate 25 being constructed in 1956 things were much more subdued with only two or three commercial275 blocks bounded by 15th Avenue Northeast to the west, Colfax Avenue Northwest to the east and I-25 running straight through downtown making everything nearly impossible to miss amidst all those towering buildings . With Interstate 25 coming through town density went down 50% or so creating pockets now scattered throughout almost everyblock becoming clusters full of independent businesses By 1978 there were only six blocks remaining completely commercial with I-25 running right through them redevelopment began earnestly picking up steam spearheaded by then Mayor Dick Thornburgh who championed bringing high end shops inside city limits along with large recent developments such as Regal Cinemas and Home Shopping Network

Northglenn, Colorado is located in the Rocky Mountains of northwestern Colorado. The city was founded in 1876 by businessman George Armstrong Custer and his partner James Irvine. In 1912, Northglenn became a county seat of Douglas County. The population of Northglenn increased from 1,500 in 1870 to over 20,000 by 1920. Northglenn started as a small town on the east side of Colorado in 1876. It grew rapidly, and by 1909 it had become a city. Northglenn was named for Neil Armstrong, who became the first human to walk on the moon in 1969.
