The first settlers to what is now Northglenn were French Canadians who arrived in 1849. One of these pioneers, Pierre-André Dumont built a log cabin on what is now Main Street just east of the current courthouse building. By 1875, other French Canadian families had also arrived and began trading goods with local farmers and ranchers near present day Rabbit Lake and Rifle Valley. In 1876, Northglenn became the first incorporated town in Weld County when it was chosen by vote of residents over towns such as Greeley or Commerce City due to its location overlooking Park City and Rifle Valley which afforded residents a panoramic view of all surrounding country. At that time there were no roads or settler infrastructure within the community so trade was support through bartering goods exchanged between traders and travelers passing through on their way to or from Denver or Fort Collins across Gunnison River valley. The early days of Northglenn were very busy with businesses dependent upon trade along ParkCity Road including flour mills run by flour merchants from nearby Fort Collins; cheese factories run by cowboys during summertime; saddlers' shops; bank; blacksmiths; wagon workshops; farm animals (livestock included) being auctioned off at public events such as fairs held at Rabbit Lake each fall since there was no market for these items in this isolated area at that time! For more than 100 years Northglenn has been an important commercial center for southeastern Weld County providing jobs for locals and contributing importantly to the growth & development of neighboring communities while maintaining close family relationships throughout that time!
