Northglenn, Colorado is a small town in the Rocky Mountains of western Colorado. It is located about 15 miles (24 km) north of Denver and 25 miles (40 km) east of Fort Collins. The population was 5,844 at the 2010 census. Northglenn is part of the Metro Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Northglenn were three trappers who explored the area in 1819. A post office was established in 1827, and by 1830 it had a population of only 10 people. In 1836, pioneers founded a cattle ranch here that became one of the largest in Colorado. In 1861, Northglenn became a protectorate organized as an unincorporated community under the jurisdiction of Larimer County. The protectorate was abolished in 1865 when Larimer County became part of Denver metropolitan area. In 1903, gold was discovered at Gold Hill on Clear Creek near present-day Northglenn. This led to increased mining activity around this time in what would become known as "the Gold Hill District". The discovery also helped spur development along Clear Creek Road northwest from Northglenn to Golden Valley beyond today's Anaconda mine site where gold was reported up to 80 feet (25 m) below the surface! The successful completion of construction on Interstate 70 through this region during the late 1960s stimulated further growth for Northglenn with many new businesses and homes being erected during that decade or later including an unsuccessful attempt by local developers to build a shopping mall adjacent to Anaconda Mine while other towns nearby experienced similar growth rates; however, this effort failed due largely to lacklustre planning and zoning support from city planners having no understanding or knowledge about either mines or rural America’s growing Hispanic commuter market leading not just to high levels but even more out-migration over time associated with these commodities prices crashing nationally throughout much earlier periods concurrent with large job losses across all industries nationwide).
