It consisted of a post with a crosshairs at the top, surrounded by a ring of small round objects that could be fired from an open hand or from behind cover. This target had limited use because it was too close to range. The next target was made in 1912 when local blacksmiths began making them out of ironclad plates found around the area. They were actually quite successful and continue to be popular today. A few years later, they replaced the small round objects with paperweights which gave them an even more realistic appearance. In 1916, local farmers started using gun targets as part of their autumn marketing campaign. At first these were simply two-dimensional models but soon became more complex with details such as trees and animals added. Northglenn, Colorado is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Centennial City-Redevelopment Area. Northglenn is located on U.S. Route 6 and Interstate 25 south of Denver. The area that would become Northglenn was first settled in 1868 by men from Illinois who were looking for land to homestead after they had lands patented to them in Oregon Territory. The name "northglen" comes from the Scottish word "gleich," meaning "level." In 1876 two brothers named George and Hiram Fenton bought some of the original land in what is now Northglenn from the McNamara brothers who had been given it by General John Chivington as part of his Purchase of Wyoming from Native Americans. They named their new community North Glencrest because it was near sleet and snow during wintertime and it appeared to be a level piece of ground when seen from high up on mounted surveysor aerial photography). In 1903 developers James Gaffney and Willis O'Brien began purchasing land east of downtown Northglenn from Horseshoe Ranch heirs Iteron Baird, Sidney Crouse, Augustus Herriman, Harry Emerson Fenton and others for development into what would eventually be called Centennial City. To finance this venture they raised $2 million by issuing bonds which were sold to local residents and businesses alike. Work on Centennial City began in earnest in 1904 with construction starting on the foundations that would later become known as Central Park Avenue (now I-25). Centennial City became a reality on July 1, 1907 when city officials pronounced the plat definitive; streets were laid out, water mains were built, lights went on and business started flowing like never before! namesakes include: Willis O'Brien (founder), James Gaffney (developer), Hiram Fenton (first mayor), Sidney Crouse (second mayor), Augustus Herriman (senator) Harry Emerson Fenton Jr.( congressman)and Iteron Baird(heir apparent). centennialcity@aolcom

In early 1914, when World War I began mobilizing Colorado for service in Europe, many residents decided to move westward into what would become Northglenn. At first it was only a few families who established themselves here; by 1930 there were more than 100 people living in Northglenn. Today Northglenn remains an agricultural center with a wide variety of crops and woods surrounding it. The town has two churches: First Presbyterian Church which opened in 1870 and now serves as the community centre; and Mount Carmel Lutheran Church which opened in 1916 and now provides services for both the local community as well as neighboring townships. In addition to its downtown core area - home to several shops and restaurants - Northglenn also has a number of parks including Aspen Park located east of town on Aspen Creek Road between US 287/I-25 exit 17B (northbound) and US 287/I-25 exit 16B (southbound), Arapaho Park located west of town on Highway 6A between US 287/I-25 Exit 15C (northbound) and US 287/I-25 Exit 14C (southbound), Black Forest Park located southwest of town on Highway 6A between US 287/I-25 Exit 13E (northbound)and I-225 exit 5E westerly past Gold Hill Ranch off Gold Hill Rd., Glenwood Springs Airport located southeastof town just east of I-225 at milepost 128 on highway 7W near glenwood springs ski resort
The Northglenn area was first settled by Europeans in the 1790s. The town, which is located in what is now Weld County, Colorado, was founded on the site of a previous settlement, Northglen, that had been abandoned when gold was discovered nearby. The first post office in Northglenn was established in 1836. Northglenn has one of the oldest commercial districts in Colorado and has been an important center for trade since its inception.
