Northglenn, Colorado is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,906 at the 2010 census. Northglenn is located on the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains and straddles the border of Wyoming and Colorado. Northglenn is named after Northglen in Scotland. The first settlers to what is now Northglenn were men led by David Dixon in 1868. Dixon had been sent out as an emigrant party looking for a new home in what was then southern Utah Territory. He arrived at Fort Bridger on July 24, 1868 and surveyed the area that would eventually become Northglenn. Dixon named his new town after his home village near Edinburgh, Scotland - Nova Scotia (then part of Canada). The first post office was established in 1870 and opened under the name "New Glencross." In 1875, a store called "The Open Door" was built on Main Street and became one of the most popular businesses in town. Over time other businesses followed including a hotel called The Starlite which operated from 1878 to 1886; a gas station from 1890 to 1899; an auto dealership from 1903 to 1916; and finally a grocery store from 1928 to 1984 which still stands today across from town square. In 1907, railroad workers stopped by Northglenn while construction continued along the Denver-Aurora Railway between Denver and Aurora with stops at various towns along their route including Manitou Springs and Aspen before reaching downtown Denver on September 12th wedding day when all cars started arriving unloaded at Union Station! The pioneer community's early days were marked by great progress made by its citizens during this important period: one man who stepped up to lead - David Dixon himself! When World War I began it quickly became apparent that there would be no stopping hostilities between America's two major allies - Great Britain & France! On October 6th 1915 President Wilson announced plans for American soldiers serving abroad within 3 months to receive training at Castle Bromwich Military School outside London England! This sudden demand caused many people throughout Colorado Springs to panic as they didn't know how much longer they could keep up with such rapid growth! In response Barton Normal School opened its doors on November 5th 1915 with 8 students enrolled! That same year saw another big milestone for Northglenn – it became incorporated as a city Limits Town pursuant to Amendment No 539 passed by voters registered in 1888!!! With incorporation came increased responsibilities for local government including but not limited to: providing water services; maintaining streetlights & sidewalks; setting regulations governing commerce & industry; making decisions about building permits etc…. Growth continued unabated until just over 100 years ago when things changed once again when oil discoveries began occurring offshore!! Development slowed significantly until around 1978 when improvements were made such as widening of US Highway 66/I-25 corridor leading into town limits causing job growth especially within transportation industries….. Today’s residents are proud inheritors of this longstanding history which has seen some amazing changesover time!!!
Northglenn is a town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. Northglenn is located on the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains and is bordered by Aspen to the south and east, Longmont to the north and west, and Golden to the northwest. The first settlement in what would become Northglenn was made on July 3, 1876 when Heman J. Farnsworth set up shop on a small rancho grant he had been granted from Colonel John Chivington. By 1881, there were twenty three men living in Northglenn including Farnsworth himself. A post office called Northglenn was established in 1881 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1902 Adams & Company opened a sawmill near present day Longmont which soon became the largest employer in town with over 100 employees. In 1906 Union Pacific Railroad built a line through town connecting it with Denver via Aspen making it easier for people to get around without having to go far away. The mill closed but some evidence still remains of its presence due to several pieces of machinery that are still visible next to what used to be an engine shed outside of town limits today. The firstElementary Schoolopenedin 1907 within sight of today's High School building vacated by Poudre Elementary school who moved across I-25 into Aurora years ago! This gave kids like me (ages 5-7) something close home&one less thing we had to worry about as we explored our new community!
