Northglenn is the home of the University of Northern Colorado and two ski resorts- Aspen Highlands and Keystone lift hill. It also has a small shopping center and several businesses that support agriculture and manufacturing. Northglenn is located on U.S. Highway 29 about 12 miles (19 km) east of Denver proper and 21 miles (33 km) south of Fort Collins. The first people to live in what is now Northglenn were gathered together by settlers from Kansas City in 1867 when they drove off the Mesa Verde Indian tribe after skirmishes over land ownership near present-day Aspen Highlands Ski Area. In 1870, three brothers founded the village on a dry creek bed between Aspen Highlands Boulevard and Keystone Dam Road northeast ofpresent-day Northglenn just north of where US 29 intersects it today. In 1876, residents voted to name the town Northglenn after General John Arapaho who had led an expedition against Navajo Indians during the Apache Wars in 1875–76. The name "Arapaho" meant "westernognito" or "the black one". The first post office opened in 1888, but no mail went to or from Northglenn until 1895 due to lack of transportation available then; only goods could be transported by horse and wagon then! In 1898, coal was discovered within walking distance of town limits; this led to heavy industry development around coalmining including industries such as making steel barrels for munitions production during World War I until those activities were replaced by other sectors beginning in the 1970s with large new companies moving into town such as Johnson Controls Incorporated (now GEICO), Boeing Co., Lockheed Martin Corporation, Siemens AG & CO., PPL Electric Utilities Company etc.; many others have since moved out although some remain like Wells Fargo Bank which occupies an entire block on Main Street opposite Union Station before it closed its doors years ago! As early as 1907 there were plans for expanding into oil production but these plans never came to fruition because technological advances made oil extraction more difficult than ever before; current day energy production comes largely from shale gas exploration!! Development continued apace through 1949 with major motel/casino developments called Outlaw Canyon Resort along US 29 adjacent to Keystone Lift Hill while old mining areas were redeveloped as professional employment zones with various shops/restaurants associated with each minecamp! By 1960 most industry had been abandoned save for a few light industrial jobs supported by local services like plumbing supplies etc.; however much smaller businesses have thrived such as Stroud's Photography which has been operating here since 1964!!! Today if you go downtown you will see several places built specifically for tourist attraction purposes including Anvil Mining Museum/ Galleries containing amazing artifacts from both Coal Mines Locales along side unique displays onsite about Coal Miner's life styles etc.; Ironworks which operated for many years next door prior to being taken over by Shriners Hospital before finally closing down some time ago!!!!!

Northglenn is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,041 at the 2010 census. It is the easternmost of the seven towns and villages in Weld County. The first documented visit to Northglenn by Europeans was on November 16, 1824 by José de Arcos who named it "Nuevo Londres" after his home country of England. The first permanent settler in what is now Northglenn was John Sutter, who surveyed and founded the town on December 6, 1868. The town site was patented to Sutter by Arapaho Chief Manuel de la Hoz on February 23, 1870. When gold discoveries were made near Trinidad in 1860-1861 Northglenn came into full bloom as a result of both its proximity to goldfields and its many German immigrants from nearbyColorado Springs who had come to work in the new mines and post office which had been established there just two months earlier on April 1st 1861. Gold production ceased around 1865 due to over-exploitation but Northglenn continued to grow as a result of its natural resources such as coal and water supplies that were not easily accessible elsewhere at that time.
