The town was named for Captain John North, who had come from Scotland during the gold rush and built a trading post on the edge of the Rockies. Over time, Northglenn became known as a center for agriculture and ranching. In 1912, Pioneer Highway was constructed through the town. This highway served as a major transportation artery in the region and helped to develop Northglenn into one of the most important towns in western Colorado. As Pioneer Highway grew older, it began to lose its importance and by 1978 it had been decommissioned entirely. However, because of its significance as an important transportation artery, Pioneer Highway has remained a popular tourist destination in Northglenn despite its lack of traffic. One of the earliest bipods that were designed specifically for agriculture was invented inNorthglenn by John Fenton and his brother-in-law Harry Mapes. The family's patented design featured two legs that could be vertically collapsed so that they formed a stand or platform which could be used to cultivate land originally using traditional methods such as hoeing and pounding with an animal’s hoof. Northglenn was initially a small agricultural community with few buildings and no human inhabitants. However, by 1890, Northglenn had developed into a large town with over 100 businesses and 2,500 residents.Today, Northglenn is one of the most vibrant cities in western Colorado and its economy is based on its manufacturing sector as well as its location within easy access to major highways.
Northglenn, Colorado is a small town in the mountain foothills of western Colorado. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. Northglenn is located about an hour and a half south of Denver, the state capital. It lies on U.S. 6 near the confluence of the South Platte and Clear Creek Rivers. The first people to live in what is now Northglenn were Native Americans who arrived around 1775 AD. They hunted and gathered area resources such as game, nuts, and berries. By 1876, when Congress created Park Service Land Base District No. 8 in northwestern Colorado, logs had been piled high along Sidell Creek for miles around to be burned as part of forest clearance operations for cattle grazing operations in what is now Cheyenne County. Prior to this time there was no road or other means of access so all villagers would have had to use foot travel or rafting to bring goods into town from surrounding valleys and hillsides where they grew crops and took care of livestock until commercial transportation became available during the late 1800s when settlers began farming land west of Denver along I-25 (now called I-70). In 1892 Northglenn’s post office opened with two letters “N” for Northglenn (north) and G for Glenwood Springs (south). In 1912 it became apparent that there were too many residents living too close together so a second post office – Knowlton – was established just east of town on State Route 26 with three letters “K” for Keystone (east), Lakota (west), and Nogales (north). On July 15th 1922 new townsite #1 was platted adjacent to present day Northglenn after surveys by Ayer Hargrave Survey Company; #2 & #3 followed on October 3rd 1923 & November 5th 1924 respectively Today Northglenn continues its story as one small community working together towards a common goal: To support local businesses, contribute culturally while preserving our unique history & landscape

Northglenn is a town in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,828 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1887 by John North and named for the north wind which often blew through the area. The first post office in Northglenn was established on July 15, 1887. The first settler in what is now Northglenn was John North, who came to the area from Nebraska. In 1870, George Waddell homesteaded land east of present-day Northglenn and built his cabin there. A year later, he and his wife married and started a family. By 1875, many other settlers had arrived in Douglas County including Jethro Hanks, who bought 202 acres (81 ha) of land just north of present-day South Gleneagles Road from George Waddell for $2 per acre ($40 per ha). In 1887, John North opened a general store and blacksmith shop at an intersection of South Gleneagles Road and Cache Valley Boulevard. He also began selling farm products such as hay and flour to other farmers around the area. By 1888, North's business had grown so much that he decided to move his store further south to offer more space and better customer service. In 1895, when Douglas County was organized into districts (the equivalent of townships), Northglen became part of District 7A which included most of southeastern Douglas County including SouthGleneagles Roadand Cache Valley Boulevard. The following year saw another growth spurt for the town with new businesses opening up such as a livery stable run by Fenton McMillin and an agricultural Implement dealership operated by Hanks & Son.. In 1897 local physician Drury Herrington opened practice inNorthglenn after moving from Denver several years earlier where he had served as medical officer for Confederate troops during the American Civil War
