The Montrose Shooting Club was founded in 1903. Over the years, the club has hosted many events including skeet, trap, and sporting clays. In 1959, the Montrose Shooting Club introduced target shooting to Colorado residents with their first open-air range. The club now operates a year-round indoor range as well as a number of outdoor ranges throughout Colorado. In 1978, the Montrose Shooting Club became a member ofthe National Rifle Association (NRA).
Montrose is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greeley–Aurora, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Montrose is located on the Republican River and includes parts of what was once known as the "Gold Rush" area. The first post office in Montrose was established on December 12, 1881, and it closed on October 15, 1886. Montrose began to grow after wagon trains arriving from Utah passed through town early in 1884. California miners were also attracted to what soon became known as "The Mines of magnetite." By 1888, there were three businesses in town: a bakery, a hardware store and a millinery shop. Mining production increased during the late 1880s when new veins were discovered; however by 1893 only one worker had been employed at the millinery shop alone. In 1899, JB Haggerty opened his first grocery store in Montrose; this would become an important factor for growth over the years as more people seeking goods nearby began moving into The Mines of magnetite mining region seeking employment opportunities and discounts on groceries prices (a practice still common today). In 1901 Haggerty built a two-story store with 20 by 60 feet lot which would remain operational until 1984 when it burned down due to an arson problem (the current building replaced it). During World War I local men enlisted and served actively with distinction including Pvt John Ahern who was awarded the Medal of Honor for action nearango Canyon on November 8th 1918 while Company C / 504th Infantry Regiment was attacking position east of Gila River called 'The Butte' - now Telluride National Park . After Armistice ended hostilities many families returned home leaving their properties idle while they awaited resettlement or rehabilitation funds available from various government agencies such as war surplus property redistribution programs which started up shortly after end of hostilities.. After World War II things changed again with increasing demand for commodities produced domestically especially oilseed crops items like soybeans rather than natural gas needed to produce electric generators necessary forww2 industry particularly heavy manufacturing industries .. By 1957 there existed only 2 businesses left in town plus 3 stores operated out of other towns within 10 miles .. Businesses closed primarily because people no longer needed them because technology had progressed so much that electricity could be generated without using physical quantities thereof..... This has continued ever since ...... Today there are just 1 business left open inside city limits .......

During World War II, many soldiers used eyeglasses as part of their military equipment because they could not afford any other type of protective gear. Eyeglasses were especially beneficial for snipers because they allowed them to view targets in all directions while still being able to shoot accurately. After World War II ended, many new technologies were developed including sunglasses and contact lenses which made it easier for people to wearEYE PROTECTION
