Montrose, Colorado is a small town located in the San Juan County seat of Pueblo. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Montrose Rifle and Pistol Club meets monthly on the first Saturday of every month to discuss firearms legislation and regulation in Montrose. The Montrose Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in 1903 when two men from neighboring towns, John Fenton and Wm. Atherton, decided to form a club to promote shooting sports in their town. In 1908 local residents formed a volunteer fire department and they began using Shooting Sports Hall as their armory where they stored arms for members of their community militia. In 1912 an ordinance was passed by Pueblo City Council providing for regulation of firearms within city limits with a goal of protecting citizens from crime. Despite this regulation, handguns continued to be trafficked within city limits until 1933 when state law changed allowing municipalities to pass their own ordinances regulating firearms without prior approval from the state government. This change opened up new opportunities for gun smuggling into Colorado which led to increased police patrols targeting firearm traffickers throughout the state during this time period

Today there are several businesses that operate within the town limits including: Applebees (now known as Grille), BB&T Bank, Flowers Unlimited, Jiffy Lube, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell; however, most of the storefronts are no longer operational because they were bought or converted into other uses such as apartments or retail space. One of the main attractions for residents of Montrose is their wide array of hiking trails that include some that take you right down to the Animas River!

Since then, there have been a number of other prosecutions for hard gun offenses, including: -In 1998, Lamar Smith was convicted of felony possession of a machinegun after trying to sell an ATF-registered machinegun he had bought from an undercover agent; -In 2000, Randy Weaver was found guilty on 4 counts of conspiracy and 2 counts each of obstruction and making false statements in connection with his attempt to purchase a rifle from someone he believed was an Agent provocateur; -In 2002, John Walker Lindh was sentenced to life in prison without parole after pleading guilty to charges ranging from providing support to terrorists (including supplying arms and explosives) to conspiring against the US government; -In 2006, Charles Manson was convicted on multiple charges stemming from his role as leader of the Manson family and their attack on Golden State Highway overpass. In addition, two other members of the Manson family were also charged with murder: loyd Farris and Ronald Goldman. Each charge carried a sentenceranging from 30 years up to death.

The first permanent settlers in what would become Montrose were John and Anna Haughey in 1849. By 1861 there were six families living here: Haughey, Rankin, Cook, Summers-Lucey, Byrum and White. In 1865 James J. McGee started a sawmill in town which soon became one of the most important businesses in the area. A post office was established at Montrose on July 11, 1875; it served until it was discontinued on December 31, 1902. In 1886 three men from Aspen named Cady Brothers bought a small piece of land east of town for $5 per acre (development that began). They set out to build a large ranch called "Canyon Ranch". This project dragged on for many years but finally resulted in its completion in 1912 and immediate success as people from all over came to see it. During World War I they constructed an airfield just north of town which was used by both military and civilian airplanes; during the war also some buildings were built here including a hospital and fire station. On November 3rd 1928 two men named Waddell walked into town with dynamite and blew up four stores near Main Street; this event has been retrospectively known as "The Blast." At one point there were 10 store owners operating within five miles of downtown Montrose! In 1937 Don Lapp purchased Canyon Ranch from the Cady Brothers after they had failed to sell it during their lifetime; he originally planned to develop it into an amusement park but later abandoned that idea due to public opposition.. In 1951 Don Lapp's son Neil took over management of Canyon Ranch along with his wife Linda who had worked there since childhood; under their guidance development continued apace with various attractions such as an amusement park (the first such venture outside of Aspen) being opened in 1957 followed by another park (Pitkin Park) opening in 1959 which became one of Colorado's largest theme parks before moving away from Montrose completely towards Aurora thirteen years later In 1984 Canyon Ranch closed down after being abandoned by its original developers because OFSTED regulations required playgrounds open to age 8 or younger at any time

The Montrose area of Colorado was first settled in the 1860s. The early pioneers were miners and their families who worked the rich coal fields in the area. In 1876, a railroad was built through the area and it quickly became a commercial center for mining and agriculture. The creation of Lake Montrose also made it possible to develop an expanding tourist industry in the area. Today, Lake Montrose is one of Colorado's most popular recreational areas, filled with fishing, swimming, boating, hiking, and camping opportunities.
