In 1932, when Interstate 70 was built through central Colorado Springs connecting Denver with Kansas City via Morrison Dam across Cherry Creek canyon, Montrose experienced rapid growth including the construction of several new schools along First Avenue into which many businesses relocated following I-70s opening up what were once isolated rural townships into larger metropolitan areas!
