It was not until 1907 that an elevator finally reached the top of the church tower so people could come down for services (at which time they drove up six stories!). During World War II, many residents worked in local farms or factories while others served in the military or during peacetime as firefighters. After World War II ended, many residents returned to their original occupations and some settled down into agriculture while others began developing new businesses downtown such as Jewelry store and several fast food restaurants later opened throughout downtown (the last being Applebees). Today's economy is based largely on tourism with emphasis on outdoor activities such as skiing, snowboarding, fishing and golfing; however, Main Street remains quite vibrant with various business districts including Old Town Plaza storefronts dating back to when most of downtown was just grassy areas surrounding a public square that saw only occasional shoppers before development began in earnest Downtown merchants have lobbied successfully for more recent retail development including high-end stores like Neiman Marcus & Macy’s as well as smaller convenience stores like 7-Eleven Much progress has been made since 2006 when Main Street underwent major renovation complete with new sidewalks/sidewalks leading from both sides of the street onto plazas providing better pedestrian access; much credit goes to Mayor Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg who spearheaded this effort
