Montrose, Colorado is a small town located in Douglas County, Colorado. The population was 1,844 at the 2010 census. Montrose is part of the Fort Collins-Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Montrose were Spanish explorers on their way to Pueblo de Arrastre in 1609. A fort was built in 1776 by Colonel John Atkin during the Mexican-American War and served as a depot for supplies going westward from Santa Fe. In 1868, gold was discovered in what is now southeastern Montrose and prospectors began arriving in droves. The town grew rapidly, becoming a bustling commercial center with shops, restaurants, and hotels dotting its streets. In 1916, the United States government designated Montrose as an important military airfield for training Apache Indians during World War I. The airport continued to be used until it closed in 1977 due to economic decline and environmental damage caused by recreational use of the airport site. In 1928, Montrose became home to the world’s first golf course designed specifically for women – Wilt Chamberlain’s Pacific Hills Golf Course (later renamed Riviera). Women played their first organized tournaments at the golf course during that year’s Women’s Open Championship held there; they had not been able to play competitively since 1892 when they were limited to tourneys sanctioned by men's organizations such as eight amateur clubs each contesting one event per week using only club players over 21 years of age - an age limit then still common throughout most professional sports leagues today! After World War II ended with Armistice Day 1945 came new opportunities for women athletes with Title IX of the American Education Amendments making female athletes eligible for participation “in all intra- collegiate athletic contests sponsored or supported by any educational institution receiving federal financial assistance” including those at university campuses where “the faculty [were] declared ineligible because they are male athletes competing on behalf of females students . . . male student body members shall not participate herein”! In 1966, after more than fifty years of growth and progress for women within our community – including service on city councils – we reached another milestone when our City Council passed Resolution No. 9 which stated that every woman voter should have an opportunity to cast a ballot at municipal elections; this followed many years of hard work spearheaded by Mayor Vera Sánchez who saw this issue as her personal responsibility given her gender identity! Since then we have seen countless successes through our city officials: From culminating success stories like building OUR FIRST COMMUNITY SCHOOLROOM IN AMERICA (now known as Our Lady Of Guadalupe School) which opened its doors January 2nd 2009; having successfully hosted numerous events such as Our Town Hall Concert series featuring nationally recognized artists & singers both local & national renown all while providing quality education opportunities & function space inside/outsideOur Municipal Building ever since; thruto being named one of THE TOP 10 CITIES TO LIVE IN BY WOMEN FOR 2018 just months after being selected!!!

Montrose is a small town in the Fort Collins-Aurora, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was founded in 1903 by John Montrose and his family. The first post office was established in Montrose on February 11, 1903. The population of Montrose was 3 when it incorporated as a town on November 2, 1903. By 1951, the population had increased to over 100. The growth of the nearby Denver-Aurora corridor has led to an increase in businesses and residents in Montrose; however, there is still much housing development taking place around town. The economy of Montrose is based largely on farming and ranching activities which have continued to be important since the early 1800s. Today, local businesses include a grocery store and several restaurants including Banquet Hall grille & bar which has been open since 1924. There are also two schools - one elementary school and one high school - as well as a few churches including First Baptist Church which opened in 1916 and Stone Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church which opened in 1929. Montrose has always been home to some of Colorado's finest citizens such as Mayor Gorham Hovey (1925-27) who pushed for annexation of Aurora into Fort Collins; Judge Edward Whelan (1948-51) who presided over trials during the 1949 playoffs that led to the towns merger; Drury Lumber Company president Harry Gorham (1924-30); Roy Prentice (1920-21), headmaster at Gore High School from 1944 until his death in 1984; Captains James Jovanovich (1920-24), George Weldon(1926), Hoyt Sanger(1928), Milton Herrington (1945) all of whom served with distinction during World War II with the US Navy or Army; Bob Breen (1973-)current Mayor who took office on January 1st 2017
