With this new territory acquired by Mexico following General Ulysses S Grant's Emancipation Proclamation on November 16th (four days before Lincoln's assassination), many miners who had fled appomattox court house rushed back into central Kansas to start anew; this included some well-to-do Texans such as Samuel Morse who bankrolled much of the development of east side Louisville since he owned large tracts of land overlooking both Platte River and Kanab Creek beds thereof). Fremont named his small settlement after James K., his brother-in-law who served with him as lieutenant colonel during the Mexican–American War (1846-48) – an event that helped solidify Fremont's reputation within Denver society for being able to handle difficult situations despite having no military experience whatsoever! In the early years, the town was a small community centered around the trading post at what is now known as Fremont Boulevard and Market Street.
