Louisville, Colorado is a small town located in the southeastern corner of Colorado. The population was 3,865 at the 2010 census. Louisville was founded in 1882 as a post office and cattle ranch by C.S. Wylie and his brother-in-law, J.D. Haney. The town grew rapidly during the early 20th century due to its strategic location near Leadville and Aspen on the San Juan River valley between Denver and Boulder. In 1924, local entrepreneurs founded an oil refinery and gas station in what is now downtown Louisville, which soon became one of the most important commercial centers in Eastern Colorado because of its location close to major highways and access to natural resources like coal, oil, uranium, and water supplies. By 1930, Louisville had become one of the largest towns in Western Colorado with a population of over 10,000 people. However, during World War II it experienced significant economic hardship due to rationing of goods by Washington County authorities; as a result, many businesses closed their doors or moved out of state altogether. In 1945-46 when Richmond decided not to participate in Project Manhattan (the United States Army's plan for cross-country construction across enemy territory), trade between Louisville and other eastern Colorado towns plummeted; this led to increased prostitution activity within downtown Louisville as prostitutes looked for work outside the city limits The post office closed in 1954 but has been open intermittently ever since providing limited service; however it remains one of only two remaining mailboxes within downtown Louisville During the late 20th century there was also significant growth in art galleries including several that operated outside traditional art circles such as Atelier Gallery (founded 1977) which exhibited typically modernist works from Europe while others such as Bluegrass Gallery (founded 1978) showcased cowboy music videos from Lone Tree In 1999/2000 development began on Jefferson Park adjacent to downtown which included new business space including an upscale restaurant called Pizzeria d'Italia while also adding a lightrail stop on Jefferson Street just east of Main Street In 2000/2001 another high profile development occurred when developers purchased land adjacent to Papa John's Pizza next door to create an " Urban Village" consisting of apartments,, shops,, restaurants,,and public transportation with plans for it eventually becoming an urban arts district It was not until 2005 that developer Tim Blanchard announced plans for developing much larger project called " Stadium View", which would include four football fields along with retail stores,, hotel rooms,,,, multipurpose event spaces,,,, parkland,,,,and residences
Louisville, Colorado was founded in 1877 by the merger of two small communities in what is now southern Colorado. The community of Louisville was located on the east side of the San Juan River near modern-day Pueblo, while the town of Carbondale was on the west side. Both were named for General David S. Hardin, who commanded U.S forces in Mexico during the Mexican–American War and later served as governor of Colorado. The first post office in Louisville was established in 1878, and it remained open until it closed in 1907. In 1886, a train station was built within the community and continued to serve as its primary artery until 1951 when Carbondale had a train station of its own erected. The town also developed a school system that included a high school (now closed) and severalelementary schools before Carbondale became an independent city in 1957. In 1952,Buyers Club president Wm Beach moved his company's headquarters from Denver to Carbondale because he saw promise for growth there. He purchased 2 football fields from local farmer Driggs Storey and began construction on what would become one of CO's most famous landmarks: Beechwood Place which would house his company store and numerous other businesses over time including music venues such as The Bluebird Lounge and Orange Peel Restaurant; theaters such as The Majestic Theater; bowling alley; golf course; lakefront home park with tennis courts, swimming pool, clubhouse, model homes etc.; basketball court at Buyers Club Site - one half mile north east corner private driveway off Old Hwy 15 just past junction with Hwy 6 (Loop Rd.) This site is now occupied by Beechwood Place Golf Course complex housing several thousand sq ft indoor/outdoor living spaces along with shops/restaurants/theater buildings totaling over 350 sq ft indoors with more than 100 outdoor seats available for events or special occasions
