Louisville, Colorado is a small town located in Weld County, Colorado. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greeley-Aurora area and is home to the Central States Fairgrounds. The town was founded in 1881 by Andrew J. Nicholson and his wife Eliza Jane Hecker when they moved from Missouri to sell their farmstead for $5 per acre (1/4 acre = $100). The townsite was named after Louisville, Kentucky because of its location on the Ohio River between that state and Kansas. The Nicholson family operated a flour mill in Louisville until it closed in 1916. In 1955, the first post office in Weld County opened with no residents living at it because there were only two buildings within a mile of it!
