The town is named for Louisville, Kentucky, which was then part of Mexico and became an American territory in 1848. In 1866, a school was built and it soon became known as one of the best schools in the area. In 1916, local businessmen formed a company to build a railroad between Denver and Salt Lake City. During World War II, parts of Louisville were bombed by Nazi Germany as part of its Operation Torch campaign against Allied forces. Today, much of what used to be downtown has been replaced by housing developments and businesses have moved into new buildings along Main Street. Some people still live near the old mill where flour is ground into bread or other products for everyday use.
