In 1868, a group of men from Louisville, Colorado organized the first Mormon church in that area. By 1888, there were over 10 churches and temples in the town. The population increased rapidly as people moved to the area for work or religious reasons. In 1912, the LDS Church built a temple in Louisville and it remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in that city today.
