The first recorded settlement in what is now Longmont was made on July 3, 1864 when Wm. H. Holmes and his party arrived on horseback from Tellico Lake in what is now eastern Denver County. They established a small log cabin called "The Big Hole." On December 7, 1868, the citizens of Longmont organized as a town under the name of Aurora. On January 1, 1870 their new town charter was adopted and they became one of the original eighteen counties in that state when it was created from Douglas and Arapaho Counties. In 1907 Longmont annexed land to its south to create the today's South Park neighborhood which still includes some of those pioneer buildings from 1868 including The Big Hole Cabin which can be seen from Interstate 70 just east of downtown Longmont. Some famous people who have lived or worked in or near Longmont include: Jack Nicholson (the actor), Neil Armstrong (the first human to walk on Moon), George Burns (the comedian) and Alice Paul (the African American congresswoman).

Longmont is a town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 7,597 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greeley–Colorado Springs Metropolitan Area. The first people to live in Longmont were the Horseshoe Bend Band of Puebloans and Comanches who arrived around 1855. By 1860, there were about sixty settlers living in what is now Longmont. In 1870, a post office was established and by 1890, longmont had a population of 350 residents. The first school was built in 1895 and by 1903 it had six students. A water system was installed in 1907 and by 1912 Longmont had a power plant that provided electricity to all of Weld County for $2 per month per household! In 1922, an expressway called "The Link" was constructed which connected Longmont with Aspen and Jeffersonville. This road made life much easier for farmers as they could get goods to market quickly rather than having to go through Greeley or Denver on their way to their customers. Today, you can still see evidence of this highway including several small towns along its route such as Aspen and Georgetown which are still served by Interstate 25 today! One interesting fact about Longmont is that it has been home to two professional basketball teams – the Denver Nuggets (now known as the Sacramento Kings) from 1976-1981 and then again from 1999-2005; while also hosting the Western Conference Semifinals during both stints. Additionally, Longmont has also been home to many golf tournaments over the years including The Masters Tournament (2003), Champions Tour events (2007-2009), Ryder Cup (2013), Umpires’ Meeting (2010) and more!
Longmont was founded in 1867 by John F. Long and his wife, Anna Maria. The town became a thriving agricultural center and rapidly grew in population during the late 1800s. In 1907, Longmont erected its first city hall. The city's growth continued throughout the 20th century as it became a major commercial center for the area. In 1996, Longmont voters passed a referendum approving the incorporation of the city into the Colorado Springs metropolitan area.
