This innovative weapon sight was also used by British forces during World War I. In 1865, German Optiker Ludwig Paul Krause developed a 4-6x50mm objective lens for use on field rifles and shotguns. This new optic allowed shooters to target far away targets with ease at ranges up to 100 meters (220 feet). It was this classic Krause Rifle Scope that led to modern sniper rifles being fielded by armies all over the world! Longmont, Colorado is a small town in Weld County on the east side of the Rocky Mountains. The population was 5,717 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Weld County. The first settlers in what is now Longmont were white men who came to this area in 1876 and founded a trading post called Prospector's Hall on an isolated mountain peak near present-day Longmont. In 1881, prospectors found oil shale under the hill and started drilling for it. By 1886, their drilling had produced enough oil to be sold and they founded a city named after themselves, Longmont, Colorado. In 1890, Congress passed legislation providing for land grants to farmers in Wyoming as part of the General Land Grant Act of 1887. The farmers here decided to name their new settlement after President Grover Cleveland because he had been president when that bill was passed. They built homes around Prospector's Hall and called it "Cleveland". In 1896, they voted to change the name to "Longmont" because it sounded more like an American Indian word than Cleveland's English name of George Washington. Oil production began in earnest in Longmont during World War I by building two underground mines (the Anaconda and Eldorado) beneath downtown streets with techniques pioneered by Otto Kapp and others at Kaiser Aluminum Company’s refinery just north of town on Interstate 25. With war ending soon thereafter, production stopped but not before leaving behind lasting scars on downtown Longmont which still look today like bombed-out shells from WWII:original brick buildings are only currently visible along First Street between Main Street and West Seventh Avenue; most other old buildings have been destroyed or replaced by modern structures over time while much of downtown has Witnessed continuous gentrification since then (+$10 million per year), transforming one once working class community into one full of wealthy retirees fleeing violence & poverty overseas (@ $220 million/year).

In 1870, the first post office in Longmont was established. In 1872, theLongmont Indian School opened and remains one of the oldest daycare centers in Colorado. The city has since developed into a major industrial center with manufacturing companies including Alcoa (now JAB Energy), Lockheed Martin (now LockheedMartin Aeronautics) and Unilever (now Herbalife).
