Longmont is a city in Colorado, United States. The population was 24,844 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Montrose County. The city and county are both located on the southern slopes of Castle Rock, a high mountain range that runs through Longmont's eastern border. Historically, Longmont was an agricultural center with significant wool and cattle industry. At this point,Longmont became home to over 25 businesses and 1,500 residents! 3) One of the most important moments inLongmountans'history occurred when it voted to become an open-air air radio station in 1933! This event markedthe beginning of an era where longmountainssued enthusiastically against telephone service and other limitations placed on radioactivity! 4) By 1938,Long mont had reached its heyday as an industrial center thanks to its holdings including two major breweries (Altria Brewing Company and Anheuser Busch Brewery), four banks (First National Bank & Trust Co., National bank of Colorado Springs/Colorado State Bank & Trust Co., Peoples National Bank), five restaurants (The Grill at Regal Place Hotel & Casino - one of which was later bought by McDonald’s), ten schools (grades 7 through 12), twenty-six homes (five were purchased by oil companies), three libraries (one serving public library readership while two were sold off to private publishers), two hospitals and one minor league baseball team called the Rocky Mountain League affiliate of the Boston Red Sox!
On July 16, 1876, a group of settlers led by Captain John H. Longmont, located in what is now Longmont, Colorado began the process of settler relocation from eastern Wyoming. The original town site was on the east side of the Animas River near present-day Fort Collins. The first post office was established at Adobe Rock on January 1, 1877. The townsite name came about because early residents named their new community after mountains and rivers in centralColorado such as Black Mesa and Arches National Park. At that time, there were no national parks in Colorado and most people living in the state thought mountain ranges were up north. In 1915, Longmont annexed portions of Aspen and Golden County to its size making it one of the largest cities in Colorado with over 125,000 people living within its boundaries at that time. In 1980 longmont annexes Thornton to its size making it one of the largest city/county merger in U.S history
