Littleton, Colorado is a census-designated place in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 25,844 at the 2010 census. The first post office was established in 1877 and was called "Salt Lake City". In 1886, the name of the town was changed to "Littleton" after James Wetherbee Little donated land to make it a town. The first store opened in 1888 and became known as the "First Store." In 1924, local grocer George Haggerty developed a grocery store on Third Street that became one of Littleton's most popular businesses. After Haggerty's death in 1974, his widow continued running the store until her death in 2000. Today, Main Street remains active as an commercial corridor with several restaurants and small businesses located along its length. The earliest known example of shooting glasses was a pair of American Eagle reflex safety glasses that were patented in 1892. These glasses had a lens made from brass and iron plated to protect the eyes from impact. During World War I, soldiers used gas masks to protect their faces from mustard gas. After the war, many shooters started using rifles with windscreens or other Eye Protection Devices (EPD) to reduce glare and protect against fatigue-caused eye injuries. The 1930s saw the development of goggles as well as progressive rifle sights that allowed shooters to better see their targets in close quarters. In the 1940s and 1950s, Shooter's sun shields became popular due to their ability to block out light while shooting at night or during hazardous weather conditions. After World War II, many countries began banning handguns because they were found to cause eye injury when fired into the air. In 1957, developed by Raytheon Company and marketed under the name "Glasses for Sighting", Shooter's sun shields became an official U.S military product through regulation by both MIL-STD-1913/R (which regulated firearms) and FMEL-1510/C (which regulated sunglasses). While Shooter's sun shields remained available commercially until 1985, their use by law enforcement agencies has continued up until present day

Littleton is a small town in Colorado, United States. It is the most populous municipality in the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area, and the second most populous in Colorado after Fort Collins. The population of Littleton was estimated to be 158,545 as of 2009. Its economy is based on education and technology businesses. The first settler in what is now Littleton was James Irvine who arrived in 1859 from Scotland. He founded an agricultural operation known as Irvine Ranch which grew to include more than 100 acres (40 hectares) of land and several thousand cattle. In 1865, two men by the name of Mullen purchased some additional land from Irvine for $1 million dollars. They named their new venture Rocky Mountain City after their home state, Rocky Mountains Province, Canada where they had been born and raised. In 1870 Captain John Hagedorn set up a post at Cherry Creek about 12 miles east of present day Littleton along what is now I-25 northbound/southbound exit 14B (now I-25 Business). By 1872 he had built a cabin there that served as his headquarters during the hiatus between Denver and Aurora due to construction work on railroad lines across National Forestland within those townships boundaries; this location would later become known as "Hagedorn's Hill". A year later he erected a log cabin near what is now I-25 eastbound/westbound exit 13C (now I-25 Business). One mill owner built four dams upstream on Cherry Creek between 1865 and 1868 for irrigation purposes; these mills are thought to have produced about 1 million pounds (450 metric tons) of flour per year when operational. In addition to flour production, other industries developed around here including cheese manufacturing, oil refining, printing press building etc.; however it’s generally recognized that the early years were very tough for the little town because no one wanted it! In 1912 Drue Bowers opened her first pediatrician’s office in Littleton – still functioning today with original equipment! She would go on to be one of America’s leading pediatricians for over fifty years until her retirement in 2006 at age ninety five! In 1923 namesake company Stonington Manufacturing Company merged with Allis Chalmers Corporation making it one of the largest Manufacturer/Retailers in Northeast Colorado!!! In 1876, the first white settlers in Littleton arrived. They were a group of men led by George Armstrong Custer. The settlers named their new town after General Custer and his regiment, the 7th Cavalry.
