The population density increased from just over 200 people per square mile in 1960 to more than 500 people per square mile by 2000; then rapidly decreased back below 200 people per square mile through most of the 21st century before reaching its current level of around 150 people per square mile’s 2013 estimate . Growth continues unabated today with reported 2016 figures showing 16% increase over 2015 – pushing Littleton’s rank among all U.S. cities for total population up to 7th place out of 20!

The first permanent settler in what is now Littleton was David Kapp in 1872. The town began as a small farming community and saw its peak between World War II and the early 1960s when it became one of the fastest growing cities in Colorado. Today, Littleton remains a culturally rich city with a rich history that dates back to its founding by pioneers who desired to create an agricultural community near Fort Collins on the banks of the Arkansas River. The first post office was established in 1875 and operated for six years before being replaced by Glenwood Springs. The current courthouse was built in 1907 and contains significant historical significance for both Littleton and Weld County as it served as both state capital during the 1912–1913 legislative session (the first time that Colorado had held statewide government) as well as serving as home to both county courts from 1907 until 1959 when they were moved to Aurora. In addition, several important businesses were located within walking distance of Littleton's courthouse including Avera Machine Works which manufactured aircraft parts during World War II; Bechtel Corporation which developed major construction projects throughout downtown Littleton during this period; First National Bank which offered banking services to local farmers until 1961; Western Union which provided telecommunications services to local businesses until 1976; Litton Industries Inc., maker of high-end televisions beginning production in 1984 in what would become one of North America's largest television manufacturing plants; and many more smaller companies over time that have contributed significantly to downtown’s character and flavor over these decades. Today, downtown Littleton retains much of its commercial vitality with multiple large retail stores including Macy’s Department Store (now JCPenney), Sears Hardware & Appliances, Circle K convenience store, Starbucks Coffee Company, Applebees Mexican restaurant/café, Red Lobster restaurant/café and numerous small businesses clustered around three main blocks: 11th Street NW between Downing Street NW and Lafayette Avenue NE; 17th Street NW between Evans Avenue NE and S Massachusetts Avenue NE; and Broadway SW between Walters Avenue SE and Interstate 25 WNW. These blocks are also home to several parks such as Civic Park on 17th Street NW adjacent to Walmart while neighboring streets include Walnut Way NE cornering 11thStreet Northwest just south of Bordered Dragnon Park across I25 from Safeway Supermarket - all providing plentyof opportunities for shopping or recreation including accesstomultiple public transportation options such as bus lines 9W (Aurora), 26R (Denver) or 55W (Littleton). Downtown also includes two professional sports teams – The Broncos football team playing their home games at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on 7500 South Platte Drive while The Rapids ice hockey team plays their home games at CVG arena on 14000 East Colfax Road
