Littleton is a town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 9,762 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora Metropolitan Area. Littleton is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the United States and has been called "the cultural capital of America". The city's rich history dates back to its incorporation as a town in 1876. The first settlement in what would become Littleton was on the east side of Town Creek and near present-day Academy Road. James Hutton built an adobe cabin there in 1873 while he was working for J. B. Meagher & Co., a firm that operated wagon trains across Utah Territory from Independence Rock to Salt Lake City. Hutton named his new settlement after himself, Littleton Township, nameake being a gift from him to his wife Eliza Hutton Meagher (1838-1925). The early residents were mostly farmers or their families who moved into what is now Littleton because it had more water than any other location within Weld County limits. The first post office was established at Littleton on July 4, 1876, by Wm. Fenton with mail delivered from Fort Collins via stagecoach to Lymansburg (now Longmont) and then by horse and buggy to the small townsite. By 1880, little local commerce existed but many people lived near Cripple Creek on irrigated land used for grazing livestock and farming produce until it was developed as suburbs of Denver beginning in earnest around 1900 In 1912 Main Street became State Highway 13 when Boulder County Roads were split off from state highway system It wasn’t until 1920 that Littleton received its own power plant which increased municipal services including streetlights In 1935 Main Street became State Highway 25 when Boulder County Roads were split off from state highways system again . For much of its historyLittleton functioned as both incorporated village and unincorporated township with separate school boards

In 2007-2008 Mayor George Christopher submitted a Request for Proposal (RFP) for development of Interlocken Park which includes 6 acres (2 ha) containing an unnamed public park along I-25 east of town center that could become home to several restaurants and retailers if approved by the City Council under then current zoning conditions; this proposal would also allow annexation byLittleton of two adjacent unincorporated districts located east and west of town center - part of what is now known as North Park Village - reincorporating those two adjacent unincorporated districts into Littleton as well should they be recommended for annexation by the City Council during their next meeting on January 6th or later during 2016/2017 timeframe pursuant to RFP Conditions 3 & 4(a). As annexed properties are not currently zoned within any specific zoning category or boundary limits they will fall within Unzoning Category III Special Use Districts subject to review by Township Planning Board prior to annexation under condition 5(c). This request will go before the Township Planning Board for review on February 10th 2017
