Littleton is a town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 15,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Combined Statistical Area. As of the 2016 American Community Survey, Littleton had a median household income of $75,512 and a median family income of $94,688. As of the 2000 U.S. Census there were 14,898 people in Littleton and its sister city Aurora had a median household income of $47,083 and a median family income of $60,951 The community began as an agricultural village founded by George Thornton in 1869 on land he bought from wealthy mining interests led by Andrew Carnegie. By 1900 it had grown to include more than 2,000 residents in 130 buildings scattered around three miles (4 km) of downtown. When Interstate 70 was built through Weld County in 1968, Littleton became one of the first communities to benefit from increased traffic and development along I-70. Today's economy is based largely on post-secondary education with businesses such as hospitals and technology companies located within walking distance or just across the street from many small shops and restaurants that have made Littleton their home for over ninety years As Littleton has grown so has its infrastructure; including two large high capacity kitschens which are now used by local businesses for manufacturing processes like baking bread or pizza ovens

Littleton is located on the western edge of the Rocky Mountains and has a elevation of 10,402 feet (3,600 m). It is bordered by Aspen to the east and Thornton to the west. The first people to live in what is now Littleton were Mennonites who set up camp along The Grosvenor Trail near Aspen in 1876. The town was platted in 1889 when settlers from Weld County began to arrive here. The name means "hilltop settlement." In 1901, Littleton became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and select committee form of government. In 1912 it annexed the adjacent towns of Thornton and Aspen. In 1959, Littleton joined with Arapahoe City to form Arapahoe-Aurora-Denver Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). In 2002 it again rejoined Withrow City as an unincorporated community within Denver Metro area. In 2006, Littleton was named one of "10 Communities That Made America" by Forbes magazine as part of their "America's Great Towns series".
In 1876, the towns of Littleton and Greeley were consolidated to form the town of Denver. The two settlements had different governments and cultures, but they eventually merged into one town.
