The city limits were expanded to include much of Aurora County within its boundaries in 1922 when Aurora was merged into Littleton City Limits. Littleton's rich history can be traced back to its founding when George W. Little and his wife Polly established their small farmstead on the eastern edge of what is now Denver in 1868 based on their experiences growing crops near Fort Lyon during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). Over time, little changed about this remote farming community other than name - until 1893 when citizens voted to change their name to honor Samuel Morse (1792-1847), one of America's first electrical engineers who developedAmerica's first practical Morse code telegraph system in 1837. At that time there were only three people living in this tiny outpost - Mrs.George W., Mr.(stone) Littlesmith, Sr., all farmers or mechanics; they had built their house from logs which they hauled overland from nearby coal mines! Today if you stop at one of these logging roads leading out from downtown LittleTON you will see oldtimers walking horses and mules across wider shoulders759 miles long!
