Littleton is a city in Colorado, United States. The population was 24,691 at the 2010 census. Littleton is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located on the north side of Denver and east of Aurora. The first European to visit what is now Littleton was Frenchman Pierre Dorion in 1776. He named it after his home town of Lachine in Quebec, Canada. At that time, the area included all of modern Littleton except for one small piece on the south side which became Aurora later. The first post office opened in 1872 and was called Headwater Springs because it serviced both Headwater Creek and Spring Valley creek near where present day US Highway 285 crosses Sprinkle Gulch Road (now East Sprinkle Gulch Drive). In 1907, Alonzo Baugh built a sawmill and log cabin on what is now Main Street just east of North High School as his own home business—the first commercial enterprise in Littleton. In 1912 he partnered with Arthur Prentice to open an ice cream parlor on South Broadway which continues to serve as an active business today with flavors like Rocky Top Banana Split and Caramel Apple Fudge Brownies In 1916 Wm Henson opened a grocery store at 6th Avenue and Lower Thames Street which remain open today as Henson’s Grocery Company In 1924 Wm J Peters started selling gasoline from his garage at 4th Avenue and Downing Street On July 1st, 1928 Harry Daugherty inaugurated “The First Stoplight” at 5th Avenue & Downing Streets The neon light show featured 10 red balloons each inflated to 12 feet high by hand from a drum set inside the school gymnasium . This event helped promote travel within Littleton while also earning $250 per night revenue for Mr. Daugherty . By 1930 there were over 30 businesses operating within the city limits including banks, insurance companies, grocery stores, auto dealerships etc By 1935 there were only six businesses remaining but this number began to decline precipitously due to mechanization (railroad projects) , unionized workers moving into other towns during World War II (and consequent layoffs) , competition from neighboring Aurora (which grew rapidly during this time) , shifting oil production center towards Weld County (due largely to oil development outside Cheyenne ) – all factors conspiring against downtown growth . Downtown merchants closed their doors one by one until only two remained: Gertrude’s Chinese Grocery & Bakery on Delaware Boulevard opposite Interstate 25E ]] ]. Other early residents include Mrs. Henson’s son Don who ran a bakery next door from 1951 until 1972; Verna Jahn who raised chickens before starting her own flower shop in 1955; Lloyd Kapp who operated a shoe store before becoming vice president for Human Resources for Pepsi-Cola bottling plants across America; Herb Myers who served as Mayor from 1969 until 1975; Louise Weisbrod who ran for Mayor four times but never won ;[Cathy Smith] finally succeeded John Henson when he died in 2001 after serving since 1978.] From its beginnings as Headwater Springs until recently it has been little more than rural farmland dotted with adobe buildings surrounded by several miles of rural forests providing much needed shade year round during summer months while providing plenty of livestock pastures throughout winter months With so many years passing without significant downtown activity or change few people even knew about or experienced what had once been such an important community hub prior to recent redevelopment efforts initiated by local elected officials including Commissioner [Bob] Addington whose visionlies pushed forward through input received from citizens through public hearings preceding construction activities spearheaded by Principal Engineer [Dan] Wolcott beginning in fall 2006 ]

Littleton, Colorado is a small town located in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The population was 5,090 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. Littleton has been a small community for over 100 years and it is one of only two towns in the metro area that were founded before 1945. The first settlers to Littleton were local farmers who arrived in 1868. The town was named after Joshua Little and his family who bought land around present day First Street and south of Academy Avenue. In 1870, John Waddell platted what is now First Street and Academy Avenue and built a store on the east side of Main Avenue near today's Old High School. The town had a population of 25 residents when it was incorporated on March 10, 1871. One of the early businesses in Littleton was an apothecary which operated from 1872 to 1888. In 1876, Captain Edwin Lane purchased 640 acres (2 km2) southeast of present day First Street from James Haughwout for $5,000 cash plus $1 per acre ($0.24 per ha). Lane donated this land to Littleton as part of his donation package to create Aurora Township in 1886. Lane served as mayor from 1897 to 1899 and again from 1907 to 1909 during his final term as Mayor George Bird Griggs Sr.. After serving as mayor for three terms he moving on to become justice of peace for Auraria County starting in 1911 until 1913 when he resigned due to illness then continued working until his death in 1916 at age 80 years old In 1915 Littleton lost its water supply when US Geological Survey crews replaced an 1894 Byers well with an improved deep well allowing oil production beginning in 1919 followed by natural gas production starting in 1925 both wells contributing significantly to the decline and eventual abandonment or demolition of buildings associated with water usage including Post Office (1893), Masonic Temple (1898), Gassa Brewery (1901), General Store (1905), Presbyterian Church (1910) - all destroyed or sold off during prohibition era vandals Notes: Population density map created by Google Maps using data provided by Google Earth’s “Street View” feature
The first settlers in Littleton, Colorado were the Hensley family. The Hensleys arrived in 1880 and started to farm the land that now makes up Littleton. In 1902, a post office was established in Littleton and the name was changed to Bentonville. In 1907, a brewery was founded in Bentonville and it stayed active until 1915 when it closed down. The little town of Bentonville quickly gained popularity as a center for arts and culture because of its libraries, theaters, and museums. In 1928, the first high school for students in Littleton was opened and it continued to serve residents until 1984 when it merged with the nearby North Central School District.
