Littleton is a town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 3,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greeley-Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area. Littleton was founded on December 12, 1872 by John Dickey and his wife Helen. The town was named for David Lloyd Littlejohn, an early settler in the area. The first school in Littleton was built in 1876 and served students from both the village of Littleton and nearby Aurora. By 1907, however, only a single school building remained in use and it became known as the “Old School House” until 1942 when a new building was erected. In 1923, Littleton City Council designated a portion of Addison Road as its main business district; this roadway later became known as Main Street. In 1924-1925, two years after incorporation into Weld County (it had been created on November 30 of that year), Littleton voters passed an ordinance designating their downtown core as “the business district” which included present-day Main Street between 14th and 15th Streets NW and Euclid Avenue between University Boulevard and 15th Street NW. In 1941 Denver developer Harry Waggoner donated land to become what is now called Park Meadows Shopping Center; originally designed to be just east of I-25 near Oregon Road/Hwy 97 (now Interstate 25 interchange), Waggoner's donation evolved into what eventually became Park Meadows mall across I-25 fromLittleton High School (renamed "Mallard" in 1990). The original name for Mallard came about because at one time it seemed like all ofLittleton's commercial activity took place within walking distance of each other - something that never really changed until after Waggoner's death when much larger shopping complexes began sprouting up around town center: JCPenney Plaza south of I-25 on Wadsworth Drive (became Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade park in 2013) while Regal Cinemas replaced Palace Theatre Complex northwest of I-25 on State Highway 16 (became AMC Loews Denver inside MetroCenters mall complex below Glendale Blvd./I-35 & Welker Rd.) When Waggoner died suddenly less than two weeks before his planned 100th birthday party – one month shy of his projected age – little did he know that Stampede Racetrack would soon eclipse him not only commercially but alsoographically when Denver opened its new Mile High Stadium across Pecos River from where he once stood! In 1967 Boulder businessman Mortimer Zukerman donated land east of Town Square to become Pioneer Place; this parcel includes present day White Sands Drive NE between Pratt Boulevard/Wadsworth Drive & US 285/Providence Drive NE; El Paso Landfill sits adjacent to Pioneer Place today off Hwy 287 just past exit 108B off US 285 just past milepost 231M
