Littleton, Colorado is a city in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 27,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Weld County. Littleton is located on the Rifle River and has a total area of 18 square miles (45 km2). The first settler in what would become Littleton was John Hays in 1865. The current town was founded by Ubaldus Wilson in 1879 as part of the newly created Coryell Township. It was renamed for Edwin Meeker Little after he donated land to the town for its incorporation. The original Main Street ran from north to south and included only one block east of where it currently stands. The present day Main Street runs from west to east and includes two blocks south of where it currently stands. In 1907, Denver-based Anaconda Copper Mines began production at New Denver about 5 miles (8 km) northeast of Littleton along Ute Creek and near today's Pueblo Mall; this resulted in an influx of people into the region, which increased development activity around Littleton. In 1912, when Anaconda merged with Phelps Dodge Company to form Union Carbide Company USA, Union Carbide built a new mill just outside of town on North East side Road which would remain an important employer until its closure in 1984 due to competition from Westinghouse Electric Corporation's Lingdle Mill complex east of downtown Denver. In 1955, Littleton became home to Rocky Mountain Laboratories – one of America’s leading research organizations dedicated to advanced technological developments across many industries – making it one stop for scientists conducting research on everything from nuclear weapons testing to medical treatments After years during whichLittleton experienced rapid growth thanks largely to Downtown Development Agency initiatives spearheaded by Mayor Dick Sears (the “Mayor Who Knew Too Much”), growth slowed beginning around 2007 as MetroParks took over various redevelopment functions such as firefighting and youth services within Town limits; however resumed modestly early last decade following MetroParks' decision that redevelopment areas were more strategically situated near major transportation hubs spurring economic redevelopment throughout Town limits . Accordingly little new housing has been constructed since 2007 despite significant population increase; instead businesses have migrated towards larger metropolises like Chicago orDenver but some smaller businesses have chosen not leave because they can still benefit from proximity to large transportation hubs while also retaining their local character

Littleton, Colorado is a small town located in the Rocky Mountains of western Colorado. The population was 3,015 as of the 2010 census. Littleton has been called "the birthplace of the Rockies" and is home to many notable people from its history including: Christopher Columbus, Ulysses S. Grant, and Pio Rodriguez de la Hoz. The first Europeans to explore the area were led by Captain James Clark Ross in 1804. He named the area Rocky MOUNTAIN GARDEN because he thought it resembled a mountain garden in Scotland. Spanish explorer Gabriel García Márquez also visited Littleton during his trip through central Colorado in 1829. In 1876, Arapaho Chief John Lloyd Patterson set out from Loveland on horseback to find new land for his people near what is now Fort Collins and reached what is now Littleton on July 10th of that year. In 1879, gold was discovered at Cherry Creek north of present day Longmont and soon thereafter settlers began arrive in droves to seek fortune in this newly discovered landmass. The early days of Littleton were difficult due to lack of transportation and infrastructure which helped contribute to its growth over time as a small community reliant on agriculture and mining for their livelihoods. By 1916, when little Denver was founded nearby, Littleton had grown so large that it needed its own city hall and police department which opened in 1917. The arrival of automobiles made life easier for residents as they could now go about their daily lives without having to worry about getting lost or being stranded on a roadblock while trying to get back home from work or church services. It wasn’t until 1959 that Interstate 25 was built through downtown giving residents more access points into town; this allowed wider variety of businesses within easy reach with less traffic congestion around town center. Today, Littleton remains an important commercial center with numerous retail stores, restaurants, theaters, bars and other businesses scattered throughout its neighborhoods making it one of the most vibrant places in Central Colorado!
In 1876, the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad was built between Denver and Fort Collins. It became known as the Littleton Railway. The first locomotive on the Littleton Railway was a Fenton Wagon.
