A post office called Clear Creek was established in 1872, and it continued to serve as such until 1907. In 1892, David Sitton built a sawmill on Clear Creek within present-day Lakewood Township. In 1914, Forest Service General Manager Jno Fenton designated Glen Moran Dam on Clear Creek as a national park to protect it from development by timber companies. The town was platted in 1886 by John Hutton, Jr., when he bought 6 acres (2 ha) of land northeast of downtown Denver along North Lamar Boulevard for $10 per acre ($2/ha). He named his new community after Glen Moran Dam which he had just constructed across Brightwater River adjacent to his farmstead on that same property. Hutton's dam replaced an earlier wooden dam which had been destroyed by a flood in 1868. Banking services arrived in 1903 with the opening of First National Bank & Trust Company located at Sixth Avenue and Pearl Street within present-day Fort Collins proper; this bank became part of Chase Manhattan Bank when that company acquired First National Bank & Trust Company in 1912. At this time there were 10 residences and 100 head of cattle inside what are now east side streets between Lamar Boulevard and Sixth Avenue; today only 4 residences remain with 5 head living outside current boundaries – these include 3 retirement homes operated by various municipalities including Aurora (east side), Westminster (west side), Fruita (northwest corner) and Thornton (southwestern corner). By 1913 there were over 100 businesses operating within what are now east side streets between Lamar Boulevard and Sixth Avenue; today only 15 businesses exist with 50 heads of livestock inside those streets plus 3 off-street parking spaces available on Lamar Boulevard itself! Some residents even set up their own small businesses during this early era such as blacksmithing or general storekeeping! By 1880, Lakewood had taken on a more downtown character with several businesses existing along Fourth Street between Main and Washington Avenues (now Arapahoe Road). In 1886, local citizens erected a wooden stockade around what would become today's downtown square to protect their fledgling settlement from raiders who had discovered nearby rich silver veins. In 1902, when Grand Junction became an incorporated city under Colorado Revised Statutes §2-4-302(a), annexation by Lakewood became necessary for cityhood due to its size and presence within sight of both cities' municipal boundaries; this annexation also included much of present day Park County including Lakewood Village (later part of Fruita) In 1912 oil was discovered at Pueblo East Field outside Deming and began production there in 1913 which led to increased demand for gasoline from individuals and businesses alike However when World War I started in 1914 all imports into Colorado were halted because America was blockaded by Europe As a result many factories closed down while people turned to agriculture or lumbermaking When Prohibition kicked in following World War II most manufacturing stopped except for food packaging which continued until 1966 As auto sales boomed during the late 1960s through 1970s many companies moved out west but few left behind such as GMM whose headquarters remain here today
