Lakewood, Colorado is a town located in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Lakewood were farmers who arrived around 1858. They named their agricultural village after a nearby body of water - Clear Creek - because they could not find any other name that would do as well for an incorporated town. The townsite was platted on November 3, 1861 by J. B. Ladd and A. C. Howe under the name of Lakeside Village; it was renamed Lakewood on December 11, 1907 by deed from the city of Aurora to its citizens. In 1924, Lennar Corporation began construction on a large steel mill in western Douglas County and soon became one of Lakewood's biggest employers and taxpayers; it continued to be so until 1990 when it closed down due to environmental concerns about its operations in neighboring Weld County (now part of Denver). In recent years there has been talk about resurrecting the mill site as a tourist destination but no real progress has been made yet

Lakewood, Colorado is a small town in northeastern Denver County, Colorado, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1892 by cattlemen and farmers near what is now Interstate 25 and Downing Street. It grew rapidly due to its location on the shores of Lakewood Reservoir and its access to water resources. In 1920, it became the first incorporated municipality in Denver County. In 1931, Lakewood annexed the neighboring unincorporated community of Brighton Heights. The annexation created a new city with a population of 10,000 people—the first such annexation inDenver County since 1889. When that city dissolved in 1990, Lakewood retained its status as a rural municipality with a population under 10,000 people. The townsite that comprises today's downtown area was laid out by developer George Wurtzel in 1865 for an agricultural plantation he had bought east of Cherry Creek about 12 miles south of modern-day Aurora. At one point Wurtzel had more than 100 dwellings on his estate—including 19 large country houses built between 1868 and 1870 using New England blueprints drawn up by surveyor General James Moncrieffe who served as guardian for three young sons of Ulysses S Grant during their visit to centralColorado during 1868–69 while they were pursuing their education at Yale University; see also "Grandview." Wurtzel named his property "Lakewood" after nearby Clear Creek which he believed would become navigable through his land holdings within ten years or so given proper engineering work (the creek does not rise above ground level until several miles north). Although Clear Creek has been diverted multiple times for irrigation purposes over time - most notably when US 6 was routed through present day Aurora instead - it remains one of only two remaining streams along Jefferson Highway which connect opposite ends of Aurora – making it an ideal location for farming operations and early development around future I-25 corridor; see also "I-25 Corridor."
