The first Europeans to visit Lakewood were Spanish explorers who landed there in 1540. The area that now makes up Lakewood was first explored by French fur traders in 1764. The early settlers were farmers who grew corn, wheat, cattle, and other crops. They built homes from logs or sod and named their towns after trees or landmarks such as Mount Hood or Pikes Peak. In 1882, gold was discovered near Alamosa and several entrepreneurs quickly set up businesses extracting gold nuggets from nearby hillsides. By 1892, most of what is now Alamosa had been developed as a result of these efforts. The town's location made it an convenient point of entry for travelers arriving via horseback or wagonloads of freight cars laden with supplies for mines downriver. Gold fever made headlines all over America during this time and led to rapid growth in Alamosa which reached 100% occupancy by 1920! During World War II, Alamosa played an important role in supplying munitions for Nazi Germany as well as helping maintain American morale during wartime shortages elsewhere in the nation. In 1951, Alamosa celebrated its centennial with celebrations including a week-long fairgrounds celebration and an outdoor concert headlined by Ray Charles

Lakewood is a small town in southern Colorado Springs, located on the east bank of the Arkansas River. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. The first known inhabitants of what is now Lakewood were the Arapaho and Cheyenne tribes. The area was first laid out as an Indian village by Colonel John Evans in 1854. In 1863, General James H. Carleton decided to build Fort Laramie on the east side of the river to protect traders coming down from Mexico City. This fort served as a point of entry for white settlers moving into this part of Southern Colorado Springs. The town was founded on July 15, 1876, when Wm. J. Goodyear bought land near present-day downtown from David McCullough and others in what is now North Park District #2c (Upper Montclair). Goodyear named his new settlement after Beaver Dam Creek—the name given to him by his father-in-law, Samuel Simms Jr., who had been instrumental in helping get United States Lands Extension Act passed that same year that created these districts around Denver and South Park areas within Aurora County (nowDenver). In 1880, William Randolph Hearst purchased 640 acres along Beaverdam Creek from Goodyear for $5 per acre ($40 total). Hearst built an enlargement of his old ranch house here which he called "Hearst Castle". He used it as a summer home until 1907 when he moved upriver to San Francisco Bay Area where he died five years later at age 87. His heirs donated much of Hearst's estate including most of Hearst Castle and portions of Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert neighborhoods to create today's city limits around Lakewood while Keepnews Ranch Remainder remains unincorporated partofcitylimits northwestofcity Limits
Lakewood began as a small post on the eastern edge of Colorado in 1876. The community was named for John Lake, who donated land to the town and served as its first mayor. In 1912, the town built its first school, and in 1916 it started growing rapidly with the arrival of a railroad station. By 1951, Lakewood had reached population size of 100 and became an incorporated municipality. The following year, it added a second school and began expanding into what is now suburban Denver. In 1974, Lakewood completed construction of its currentgrounds which are home to many local businesses and office buildings today.
