Lakewood is a city in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. The population was 21,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood Metropolitan Area. As of 2010, Lakewood was the fastest-growing city in America. The first Europeans to enter what is now Lakewood were party members of the Spanish exploratory expedition led by Hernando de Soto in 1540. They named it "San Miguel" and established a small mission there in 1602; however, they abandoned it soon after because of Native American resistance. The area that would become Lakewood was sold to James Doane by Major George Armstrong Custer during the 1876 Dakota War over land claimed by Custer's cavalry brigade from the Seventh Cavalry Regiment under General Philip Sheridan. Doane built him a cabin on what is now US-27 south of town and called it "Doane's Ranch". In 1881, he donated about acres (km²) to build what became downtown Lakewood on this site. In 1886, Ulysses S. Grant offered $5 for every acre (km²) contributed to build a public park in honor of his wife Julia Woodbury Grant; as a result, nearly all of downtownLakewood was dedicated to parkland within ten years. In 1905, Mayor John Fetterman dedicated one million dollars ($100 million at current prices) toward improving public transportation in Aurora and other cities through bonds issued during his administration; this project included building two new Central Avenue stations: One north of town on I-25 and one east near Union Station on I-70/I-80/US-6A). These projects also improved traffic flow and created jobs throughout Aurora outside of downtownLakewood which helped spur development around central lakefront areas such as Northgate Mall and Town Center South mall today known as Downtown Aurora

Lakewood is a town in Moffat County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Area. The townsite was named for James Lakewood, who built a sawmill and grist mill on the east side of the creek in 1868. The first post office was established in 1870, and the first store was opened in 1872. In 1876, Miss Emma Sayers moved to Lakewood from Golden and started an academy there. Mrs. Ziegler donated land for a church in 1886. The first school was built on what is now Main Street in 1889. In 1902, the village of Lakeside became incorporated as a town within Lakewood; it retained its own government until 1959 when it became part of Moffat County under county jurisdiction only. In 1903, Helen Hebard started a bakery which continued into the 21st century with many locations throughout western CO Lakewood has been known for its festivals including July 4th fireworks displays and art shows during summertime According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. These boundary changes are not considered official by Census officials but have created various perceptions about how much “inner” or “outer” area may be included within still unincorporated areas adjacent to town limits
Lakewood is a city in Lake County, Colorado, United States. The population was 27,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what would become Lakewood was David Cone in 1879. In 1895, the towns of North Park and South Park were formed from what were then portions of unincorporated Clear Creek Township. The following year, Clear Creek Township divided into two portions: one with a large body of water called Mayflower and another with land that included present-day downtown Lakewood and most of the eastern edge of North Park. The two towns quickly merged to form one town by 1900; however, because Mayflower had a more populous population (due to its location near an irrigation canal), it continued to be known as Mayflower until it became Lakewood in 1907. In 1911, when Aurora became an independent municipality, it annexed part of Clear Creek Township which made it merger into Aurora on an equal basis with neighboring South Park and North Park municipalities which also annexdced parts of Clear Creek Township during that year's annexation process. On January 1st 1923, all three municipalities consolidated into one under the name "Lakewood". At this time, residents in both cities elected their first mayors: Harry Wirths for Aurora and Willard Hennepin for Lakewood; these mayors held office until 1933 when they were replaced by City Councilmen who served four-year terms only. A new city hall was built on State Street in 1935 which remains current today as the home of City Hall Plaza/City Council Chambers Complex located within walking distance to both central business districts - Hubbard Avenue between Eighth and Ninth Streets NW - as well as other public services such as libraries (First Avenue & Welton Street NW) and parks (Southwest Boulevard & Irving Street NW). In 1948 elections voters approved adding retail stores along northwest corner streets within limits set by City Planning Department; those stores opened up beginning in 1951 Merchants Row between NinthStreet NW and TenthStreetNW began construction but never finished due to lack of funds As Aurora grew larger than Lakeshore Gulch eastward growth slowed while northward growth accelerated leaving little room for development southbound growth stalled making it difficult for future annexations
