Lakewood, Colorado is a small town in Southern Colorado that is part of the San Juan County seat. The population was 3,824 as of the 2010 census. It has been Republican since 1912 and has not voted for a Democrat in a presidential election since 1984. The first people to live in what is now Lakewood were probably Arapaho and Cheyenne Native Americans who hunted and gathered game near the present-day townsite around 1810. In 1868, when Denver & Rio Grande Railroad was built through southern San Juan County, some settlers from Fort Collins moved into what is now Lakewood and began to build log homes. Others followed suit over the next few years until about 1870 when all but three houses had been built. During World War I, many workers from Aurora came to work on building up US forces in Utah then returned home when it was finished; they left behind their barracks and other equipment which became integral to early Lakewood development. In 1912, due to annexation by the City of Denver, Lakewood became an official city with its own police department and mayoralty system under which it continued to be governed until 1971 when it reverted back under county government control. During this time, two mayors served: Franklin Pohl (1921-1925) and Herb Ladd (1945-1949). The current Mayor is John Suthers

In 1925, when Main Street was renamed Park Boulevard in honor of General James Averell Harriman, local citizens campaign successfully led to its designation as a national highway corridor. In recent years, much development has taken place within the limits of downtown: retail stores are opening up near Main Street's intersection with Larimer Street; construction is ongoing on two new high schools; and several thousand people live within Watershed District boundaries adjacent to DowntownLakewood
Lakewood is a census-designated place in Golden County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,849 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area.
