Lakewood, Colorado is a small town located in the southern part of the state of Colorado. The population was 7,227 at the 2000 census. It is one of the most populous towns in Southern Colorado and within an hour’s drive of Denver. Since its incorporation as a town in 1875, Lakewood has been home to a number of firearm businesses and retailers that have contributed to its gun culture. For example, In 1892, Wm. H. Kline & Bros., manufacturers and dealers in firearms and ammunition, moved from their previous location on Third Street to what is now Main Street in Lakewood. This move helped solidify the town's status as a firearms center for eastern Rocky Mountain region residents. In addition to its retail presence, Lakewood also had an active fire arms training program which hosted various classes throughout the years including NRA Basic Pistol Training courses for first time shooters; Advanced Pistol Training courses for those who had advanced experience; Firearms Instructor course; Rifle Shooting School; Shotgun Shooting School; Gunsmithing School etc.). These programs helped ensure that residents were able to learn how to use firearms safely and responsibly. The first store in town was built on Main Street and served as the equipment store for the local farmers. As Lakewood grew, so did its demand for firearms and clothing. In 1892, John T. Purdy opened a shirt shop on Fourth Street which became known as "Purdy's Shirt Shop." After years of business success, Purdy sold his interest in the shop to Augustus C. Tucker in 1905. Tucker ran the shop until his death in 1938. His son, Everett W. Tucker took over operations after his father's death and continued to run it until 1986 when it closed down again due to declining sales
Lakewood, Colorado is a city in Denver County, Colorado, United States. The population was 54,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora–Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first known permanent settler in what is now Lakewood was John Colter in 1872. A post office called Lakewood was established in 1876 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1907, the town of Aurora became one of Lakewood's towns and its original name change to Aurora Township. In 1912, Aurora Township changed its name once again to Lakewood Borough and then finally to Lakewood City on July 1, 1916 following a referendum by the people of both townships on that date. On November 2nd of that year, voters approved an amendment to the state constitution which granted cityhood to Lakewood as well as other new municipalities within Denver County. On July 1st of 1920 residents voted by popular vote to incorporate as a city with a population of 507 residents pursuant to an act passed by the state legislature on December 16th that same year. The incorporation process took three years and resulted in the creation of one of North America's largest cities with a total area exceeding 100 square miles (240 km²). This growth continued through World War II when war production moved into town from outlying rural areas; during this time crime rates also decreased significantly due to better police services provided by municipal governments throughout North America’s most heavily populated region during wartime period than they had ever experienced before or since! In 1559 AD Englishman Nicholas-Jacques Conte introduced a beltsaw-like device known as a procurer which permitted him to cut military fatigues quickly into desired lengths allowing him greater freedom when moving about his units He also brought back crossbows from Spain which had been banned there years before so he could use them within England again! In general muzzleloader shootings took place at night where visibility was poor so travelers who wanted protection against ballistics had little choice but to purchase armor including helmets with face shields

Lakewood was founded in 1876 by John Fetterman, a surveyor. It became a town in 1881 and an incorporated city in 1907. The city was named for Lakewood Cemetery, which was located in the town until it was moved to neighboring Englewood in 1924. In 1916, Lakewood hosted the first international air show at nearby Colorado Springs.
