In 1924-1925 an effort was made by local residents to name their new town after General Lafayette but no vote was held because no one had voted in more than five years! On October 11th 1925 a resolution approving the name change passed unanimously by both houses of the city council with Mayor Charles Hockaday dissenting due to concerns that "the general's image might be used detrimentally" in what would become known as "Lafayette Hell". Although initially intended only for use during promotional materials such as postcards and business cards, community members soon realized thatGeneral Lafayette Day could also be used more generally for events honoring all aspects related to him or any members associated with his military career or causes important to American democracy - such as birthday parties or high school graduation ceremonies. Today, Lafayette boasts several cultural attractions including an annual General Lafayette Festival celebrating its namesake's Birthday; an outdoor museum displaying artifacts from various parts of his life;a public library; numerous restaurants; three golf courses; two swimming pools; four tennis courts; and a popular children's amusement park called log flume

Lafayette is a small town in Clear Creek County, Colorado, located about 12 miles northeast of Golden. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. The site of Lafayette was first settled by the Hopi people in 1887. They named their settlement after General Lafayette, who had fought for Mexican independence during the Mexican-American War. In 1902, Lafayette became a part of the new county of Clear Creek and remained so until 1912 when it was renamed to Lafayette after General Philip Kearny. In 1915, Lafayette voters passed a referendum establishing an education district within Clear Creek County that would include all of what is now Clear Creek County as well as parts of Asotin and Park counties. The school district has since grown to include most of western Colorado including portions of Greeley and Aurora. Lafayette is one of two communities in Clear Creek County (the other being Pueblo) with a paved road system - the other being Westminster. This paved road system date back to 1916 when developers began building homes in what is now Lafayette. The original Main Street ran from corner to corner on land that once comprised much of downtown Lafayette today. Today, there are only scattered reminders remaining from this early development - such as one large boulder still standing at the intersection of Main and Pine Streets which marks where Main Street crossed Pine Avenue in 1916
Lafayette was founded in 1821 by Pierre-Charles Lattre de Tassigny. The town was named for General Lafayette, who had been fighting in the American Revolution.
