Lafayette is a town in Jefferson County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,839 at the 2010 census. The name Lafayette comes from Lafayette Hill on the South Platte River. It was platted in 1865. The first post office in Lafayette was established in 1872. In 1903, the town became an incorporated community under the name of South Park. In 1907, it changed its name to Lafayette and again to that in 1911 when it merged with Park City. Park City had been platted as a townsite around 1887 by James Benge and others who were investors in the Denver-Aurora railway company which built a line through Park City to Aurora. The original town site included what is now north Lamar Street and east of Euclid Avenue; south Lamar Street and east of Broadway; west Lamar Street from downtown to Auraria; and east of Euclid Avenue from downtown to auraria (now north Barney Road). On July 15, 1912, Lafayette merged with Park City form one municipality under the name "Lafayette", although for most purposes both towns continued to operate separately until annexation by Aurora on January 1, 1916 In 1931 school consolidation took place within Jefferson County so that all public schools were moved into merger territory including Lafayette where they remained separate until closing on September 3rd of that year due to lack of enrollment On May 27th 1946 statehood occurred making Lafayette part of Colorado

Lafayette is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. The community is located on the eastern edge of the San Miguel National Forest. Lafayette is named after General Lafayette, who fought in the American Revolutionary War and then served as Chief of Staff to George Washington. Lafayette was founded in 1872 by John Fenton and his wife Lucy. It began as a post office and store with a population of six people. By 1900, there were twenty-one residents and two businesses. In 1927, Lafayette became an incorporated town with a population of fifty-six people. The first school was built in 1903; it closed in 2003 but reopened as an elementary school in 2007. In 1944, Lafayette purchased land adjacent to its current downtown for use as a library; it opened on April 15 that year. Lafayette has several notable buildings and sites including: the old courthouse (1872), Duffields Store (1927), First Baptist Church (1892), Masonic Lodge #3 (1899), Lafayettes Chapel (1907), Soldiers' Home Museum (1936), Park Service Overlook Trail Visitor Center (1964) and Old Post Office Building No 2 (1927).
Lafayette is a census-designated place in Mesa County, Colorado, United States. The population was 7,171 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Boulder–Aurora–Denver Metropolitan Statistical Area.
