The early years of pistols in Lafayette were not without incident; on October 6th 1906, an argument between two men resulted in one man being shot and killed by another man who then took off with his weapon. A few months later on November 9th 1907, an altercation involving three people led to two shootings that left two men dead and four others injured. On December 5th 1911, authorities responded to a shooting at a local game farm where they found three people dead including one gunman who had been killed by police before he could shoot any more people. This event is considered to be the beginning of handguns regulation in Lafayette as it was the first time that firearms were confiscated from individuals under Colorado state law.
Lafayette is a town in Boulder County, Colorado, United States. The population was 5,614 at the 2010 census. It lies on the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains and is bordered by Aspen to the north and east, Greenwood Village to the south, Broomfield to the west, and Centennial to the northwest. Neighboring towns include Aspen to its east, Greenwood Village to its south, Broomfield to its west, and Centennial across I-25 less than 1 mile (1 km). According to the 2010 census, Lafayette has a total area of , all land. According to legend Lafayette was founded by General Anthony Wayne during his ill-fated attempt at invading Mexico City from Cheyenne Mountain via what are now Larimer County and Douglas County in 1812; however no evidence exists verifying this claimother than an anecdote told by Wayne's aide-de-camp John Reynolds about how General Wayne had "a storehouseful of biscuit dough" which he intended for troops besieging Monterrey but never got aroundto using because "the Mexicans were so good at stealing our food".[1] In reality it likely originated with Frenchman Pierre Chouteau who traveled through this area back in 1792 while exploring what would become Colorado Territory before arriving at Fort Carson near present day Lafayette on July 10th.[2] If true then Lafayette would be only one day walk or ride from Montezuma Castle Shannon Airport

Lafayette is located on Interstate 25 just east of Colorado Springs outside of the city limits. It has three access points: I-25 northbound Exit 167 (north side entrance), I-25 southbound Exit 175 (south side entrance), and Ulysses S Grant Parkway westbound Exit 191 (west side entrance). The town has two high schools - Central High School which opened in 1927 and Westside High School which opened in 1965 - as well as two elementary schools - Lafayette Elementary School which opened in 1961 and Mount Carmel Elementary School whichopened in 1974. There are also nine houses that were used for housing during World War II plus an amphitheater built to accommodate up to 600 spectators for events such as public speaking or plays.

It became a town in 1892 when it became part of the Denver-Aurora area. In 1903, Lafayette annexed the adjacent unincorporated community of Belle Vista.
