Lafayette, Colorado is a small town in Southern Colorado. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pueblo-La Plata County seat. Lafayette is located on U.S. Highway 24 and State Road 121 about 15 miles north of Pueblo and 25 miles south of La Plata. The first settlement in Lafayette was made by prospectors in 1859, when they found oil well near what is now known as the trading post site. The post office was established in 1861, and the first store opened in 1865. In 1868, Lafayette became a county seat; it remained that way until 1959 when it reverted to its original status as a unincorporated community within Pueblo County. Lafayette had two school districts until 1954 when both were combined into one district which still operates today: Lafayette Elementary School District #1 (founded 1907), Lafayette Middle School District #2 (1910), and Lafayette High School District #3 (1911). On July 1, 1916, the last school district in Lafayette merged with another district to form the current Pueblo-La Plata Valley Unified School District which continues to operate today as one of three public schools in that area: White Sands Elementary School District #1 (founded 1912), Centennial Middle School District #3 (1915), and Pine Ridge Elementary SchoolDistrict#4 (1920). Today's economy largely revolves around agriculture with some manufacturing activity also taking place; however, most businesses are family-owned or -operated rather than being run by professional staff members like those once common in larger townships across America.

Lafayette is a small town in Larimer County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,094 at the 2010 census. Lafayette is named for General Lafayette, who fought in the American Revolutionary War and later served as president of the United States. Lafayette was founded in 1876 by John W. Coulter and his family. The first post office was established here in 1877. It closed several years later because of low mail volumes. A new post office opened in 1908 and continued to serve until it merged with Pueblo on July 1, 1961. The primary industry of Lafayette at this time was agriculture; however, since 1950s some businesses have grown up around the trade of mining coal and other minerals that are found nearby. Mines include Butte Mine (opened 1892), Golden Spike Mine (opened 1907), Mount Carmel Coal Company No 2 (active 1915-1918), Sinagoga Mining District No 3 (active 1924-1930), Montrose Coal Company No 1 (active 1902-1906) and North Face Mine II (active 1951). In 2000, Lafayette received a grant from the Colorado Department of Education's Regional Educational Facilities Grant program to help fund renovation projects at its high school and elementary schools which were not met by previous grants earmarked for more traditional public education facilities across Larimer County
On July 1, 1855, a small community of farmers and ranchers called Lafayette was founded in the Pikes Peak region of Colorado. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Rincon Mountains, its fertile soil, and its proximity to the regional railroad. By 1865 Lafayette had a population of 350 residents and was incorporated as a city. Lafayette thrived until World War I interrupted America's growth. The war led to an exodus of industry and jobs in Lafayette, which also caused a decline in population. After the war, Lafayette reverted back to a farming community with a population of around 100 people by 1922. In 1970, however, Lafayette became the first municipality in Colorado to be approved for full city status when it applied for cityhood from the state government.
