Greenwood is located in the eastern part of the county and by total area it is one of the most populous towns in Weld County. It is bordered by Loveland to the south and east and Aspen to the north. The first settler in Greenwood was John Wesley Powell who came to this location during a survey for a wagon road through centralColorado in 1876. In 1892 platted as Greenwood Township, it became an incorporated town on November 3rd of that year. In 1912, Greenwood had its first movie theater with a capacity of 100 people which served as the base for many later movies filmed here including "The Three Musketeers" (1915), "Huckleberry Finn" (1917), and "King Kong" (1933). In 1949, Greenwood voters passed an ordinance allowing concealed carry without permit beginning on October 26th of that year which had been pending since 1944 when Denver passed their own ordinance allowing such ownership without permits. This would become known as "the green light law". Many people then began bringing pistols into their homes starting on October 26th just like Denver had done before them. The result was what has come to be known as "G-town", or simply "Grace Plaza". Since then gun confiscations have become more common due to local media attention than anything else however they continue at a modest level compared to other municipalities in Weld County where carrying firearms openly is legal without any problem
