Greenwood is a small, rural town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. Greenwood was founded in 1865 by Norwegian immigrants who arrived on the Oregon Trail. The population was 596 at the 2010 census. Greenwood is located in the eastern part of Weld County and is bordered to the east by Aspen Township and to the south by Cheyenne and Arapaho townships. Blackburn Elementary School serves as the town's only public school. The first settlers in what would become Greenwood were Norwegian immigrants who journeyed down the Santa Fe Trail from Fort Bridger in Wyoming Territory. They settled along the banks of Clear Creek north of present-day Greenwood Village and began trading goods with Indians they encountered while traveling through that region. In 1868, when it became apparent that Denver had outgrown its role as a business center on the Western frontier, some of these early settlers decided to move to what would soon be known as Greenwood Village. In 1865, following a decision by General George Armstrong Custer during his Dakota Wars against Native American tribes not to pursue any further into Indian Country after learning that most of those Tribes had abandoned their efforts at war, some Norwegians decided to settle near Aspen because there seemed likely enough land remaining for them without having to wander far into hostile territory again. This area now includes all or parts of Aspen Township (northwest corner), Cheyenne Township (southwest corner), Arapaho Township (northeast corner), and Blackburn Elementary School District No. 1 (east side). The town platted out from what consisted mostly of adobe homes built around irrigation canals dug through deep snowpack which formed during winter months aboveground rivers flowing through much younger earths below ground water ponds created during summer months below trees/oaks situated on flat grasslands lying between high ridges bordering hills) A total of 399 lots were sold within one year after platting out; December 1865 until May 1866 due largely to offers from men travelling westward looking for new opportunities than experiencing life back east while their families stayed behind Most lot sales took place during: January-March 1867 due primarily to increased gold discoveries being made throughout western US; April-June 1867; July-September 1867 due primarily to hot weather causing many people headed westward either unable or unwilling return home sick or injured ; October-December 1767; January-March 1870 since most everyone heading westward either sick or unable continue travel much beyond their original settlements In 1870–71 Greenwood "became an established community" with residents electing two trustees over six years running plus $1 per week each year contributed towards meeting expenses

Greenwood was founded in 1872 by Anders Grøndahl and his family. The village of Greenwood had no real infrastructure until the construction of a post office, school, and births and deaths records in 1878. The first store opened in 1879. After prohibition was repealed in Colorado in 1896, Greenwood began to grow rapidly due to its location as an agricultural center. In 1907, the city incorporated as Greenwood Village.
