Greenwood, Colorado is home to the first gun magazine in America. The Greenwood Rifle and Pistol Club was founded on November 3rd, 1892 by a group of local residents. It was the first magazine in America to be published monthly. The club later became an armory and still meets monthly today. The club’s publication, the Greenwood Rifle and Pistol Journal, continued to be published until 1912. After that it was distributed through private mail. From 1912-1916 the journal was printed at the old Western News building on North Broadway in Greenwood. The building now houses a small business called Greenway Press which publishes periodical journalism from Greenwood. From 1916-1918, the journal was published at the new Denver Republican printing office located at 11th and Jefferson Streets in Denver. It again went through various printers before being reprinted as a tabloid format book at McMeel Books in 1978. It has been reprinted multiple times including once every two years since then! In 1984, another paperpublishing company purchased McMeel Books and began reprinting both journals as well as other periodicals from Greenwood into their print edition (currently available online). They continue to do so periodically throughout their existence! Today’s publishing company is known as Houghton Mifflin Harcourt which prints both journals plus many others from across Colorado into their print edition (currently available online). As of 2019 they are only reprinting magazines which are over 25 years old!

In 1915, the U.S. Post Office moved from its original location to what is now Main Street in Greenwood Village after being forced to move due to changes in post office law that made it difficult for small towns to maintain their own postal services. The town had two schools until 1959 when they were replaced by one school system that serves both main streets and adjacent properties across Frome Road and Keystone Road.. The first high schoolopened in 1922 while the second opened in 1951. Both schools closed in 2006 but have been preserved as part of the downtown core business district since then.

The growth of Greenwood culminated in the city's incorporation as a municipality on November 6th, 1912. Althoughthetown has experienced occasional downturns throughout its history-most notably during the Great Depression-it has always been an important financial center for eastern Coloradoand remains today one of the most vibrant communities in that state
