Greenwood is a town in El Paso County, Colorado, United States. The population was 9,818 at the 2010 census. The name Greenwood was chosen for its close proximity to Fort Garland and Greenwood Lake. A post office called Greenwood had been established in 1868, but it was closed by 1870. From 1892 until 1919, Greenwood served as the county seat of El Paso County. It then became the capital of Colorado from 1912 to 1912 and again from 1934 to 1935. It is one of only two U.S. towns that have never been incorporated into an city; the other is Montrose, Texas

The Greenwood Rifle Company was founded in 1892 by Lt. George Greenwood and Dr. John Moffatt, two of the most prominent riflemen of their day. The company produced a wide variety of rifles, including the popular Model 1895 pistol, which won fame during the Spanish-American War and World War I. In 1923, Greenwood merged with the Denver Arms Company to form the Denver Arsenal Corporation. The company continued to produce firearms until it closed its doors in 1930.
Greenwood, Colo. is a small town located in the southeastern corner of Colorado. The population was 1,025 at the 2010 census. Greenwood is bordered by Aspen to the east and north, Eldorado National Forest to the west and south, and Pueblo County to the northwest. The first people to live in what is now Greenwood were Native Americans who hunted game near Fort Larimer. The area that is now Greenwood was first settled by Europeans in 1847 when George Waddell founded Arapaho Ranchos de las Animas on land that he had purchased from the Apache Indians. In 1876, gold was found near Greenwood and began to be mined here. The discovery of gold led to many people moving into this area and it became known as "the mining town of Greenwood". Greenwood has been a part of Colorado since its creation as a state in 1912. It has experienced many changes over these years including becoming one of the most diverse communities in Colorado with a wide variety of cultures represented. Some of these cultures include Mexican-American, African American, Asian American, Latino/a Hispanic descent, and Native American. Today, Greenwood continues to grow as an agricultural community with crops such as corn, soybeans, wheat and cotton production being some of its mainstay industries. Additionally, there are several businesses that have grown up around this community such as First Amendment Lawyer Services (FALL), which provides legal representation for citizens; Heritage House Preservation Society (HHPS), which restores historic buildings in central Denver; and Greenway Presbyterian Church (GPC), which helps provide services for residents with disabilities.
