Greenwood, Colorado is a small town located in Routt County, Colorado. The population was 1,814 at the 2000 census. Greenwood is named after George Greenwood, an early settler. The first post office was established in Greenwood on February 14, 1872. In 1902, the name of the town was changed to Greenwood Village after it became part of the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area. The community of Greenwood began as a farming village located near what is now Interstate 25 and Broadway Boulevard. By 1907, however, many residents had started moving to the new city of Aurora because of its growing industrial sector and growing population. As Aurora grew more populous and prosperous than Greenwood, many people decided to move away from their original hometowns and join Aurora instead. In 1920, when Denver-Aurora completed its merger with Stapleton in southern Colorado to form the greater Denver-Aurora metropolitan area (renamed today'sDenver), all but two towns within that boundaries were placed within that newly created jurisdiction: Greenwood Village and Auraria (the exceptions being Pueblo Heights which joined shortly thereafter). Greenwood Village remained unincorporated until 1978 when it incorporated into the City of Aurora under then Mayor Dick Pounder's leadership as one of several communities within Aurora that would be forced by state law to become " municipalityally organized" upon annexation by neighboring cities such as Golden Valley or Northglenn following Boulder's failed attempt to annex those neighborhoods en masse in 1977. That same year saw also the opening of Charter High School which served students from both Park Meadows Elementary School on Tower Road eastward across I-25 towards Westminster before turning south on Clarkson Avenue for about two blocks before terminating at Maple Street; while middle school students continued attending nearby Mapleview Elementary School until 1988 when it too closed due largely to suburban growth along I-25 north of downtown Dearborn Street - although some elementary students still attend Charter during lunch periods.) During this time period there also emerged a vibrant artistic community centered around GreenWood Theatre which staged Plays for People/Plays by People throughout much of this decade including productions such as "The Sunshine Boys", "Death Of A Salesman", "Whose Life Is It Anyway?", "Oklahoma!", "The Grapes Of Wrath", etc., with occasional revivals throughout the years; significant events associated with this Theater include its world premiere production of David Mamet’s play “Oedipus Rex” in 1984 alongside renowned artists including Barry Mannheim and Alice Notley; recent productions have included Neil Simon’s “Cabaret” starring Liev Schreiber & tap dancer Carmen Electra; “Tootsie Slide” featuring Donny Hathaway opposite Rita Moreno & Art Carney (a production made possible through support from Friends Of The Arts)); current season runs include four plays – “Annie Get Your Gun” featuring Judd Hirsch & Barbra Streisand; “Angels And Demons” directed by Todd Haynes with music composed by Danger Mouse Featuring Robin Williams & Harvey Keitel; plus three short plays comprising half an hour each which run consecutively over four days beginning Tuesday evening May 5th thru Saturday morning May 9th culminating finally Sunday afternoon May 11th) – making Charter one outgrowth among other large schools system serving an urban core predominantly populated generating mass media exposure daily outside classrooms doorSTEPHANIE MAGNUSZEWSKI

Greenwood is a small town located in Weld County, Colorado, United States. It was founded in 1871 as the community of Greenwood Village and became a municipality in 1902. The population was 10,000 at the 2010 census. Greenwood is located along Interstate 25 between Denver and Fort Collins. The first store was built in 1870, and the first post office opened in 1872. The town was named after Greenwood Forest near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The city of Greenwood Village annexed part of the towns of Aspen and Averill on December 1, 1907. On July 1, 1912, Greenwood Village incorporated as a municipal corporation with a population of 753 residents. The incorporation caused concern that it would become an annexation-controlled city like many other towns in Weld County during this time period which were becoming morehegemonic due to their size and importance within the larger communities around them. In 1916 when voters approved an amendment to the municipality charter that allowed for sale of liquor by individual citizens instead of by the municipality, Greenwood Village became one of just two American municipalities to allow such sales (the other being Vancouver, British Columbia). On June 24th 1920 voters ratified an act annexing Denver’s south side into the new municipality (renamed Aurora on November 15th). In 1984 Mayor Tom Foley proposed annexing Westminster because he felt that its services could be better served by having its own government than through its sister city status with Westminster which had been providing services such as police and fire protection since 1921 without any major changes or input from the community itself despite continuing requests from residents for more transparency from their government representatives about what they were doing with their money while living within City Limits Despite heavy opposition from Westminster Residents who felt that their neighborhoods would continue to be less developed if annexed into Greenwood Village due to lack of public consultation about whether or not their neighborhoods would receive similar development benefits as those granted to neighboring municipalities such as Aurora/Denver-Southeast Side/Lakewood/Northeast Highlands etc., annexation took place on September 12th 1984

Greenwood was founded in 1870 by John Greenwood and his wife, Sarah. The first post office was established here in 1872. In 1902, Greenwood became a town and the name was changed to its current form of Greenwood Village.
