By 1880 there were over 50 residents living in what is now downtown GreeLEY In 1896 an act gave all citizens except those owning businesses three votes per day for municipal officers including mayor On May 10th 1903 an act added two more elected officials- recorder and surveyor In 1906 another act changed Town Charter from Mayor+ recorder to Mayor only It wasn't until 1907 when voters approved annexation by Fort Collins which increased its population by 350 residents . That same year construction began on what would become Coors Field which opened in 1910

Greeley was founded on the western slopes of Aspen Mountain in 1871 by John Wesley Powell and his party as a wagon train stop on the Larimer River. The population was 914 at the 2010 census. Greeley is located about 27 miles (41 km) south of Denver and about 122 miles (193 km) north of Salt Lake City. The first permanent settler in what is now Greeley was David Sibley, who arrived in 1868 from Illinois. Sibley named his town after himself, George Atherton having given him that gift two years earlier. In 1870, namesake of Aspen Park Graham opened an hotel and spa here. This rapidly became one of Colorado's leading tourist attractions with its fine guest rooms overlooking the river valley below. By 1880, Greeley had become an important transportation center for settlers travelling to the east side of the Rockies via wagons or stagescoops carrying goods down to Denver and Fort Collins on the Clear Creek Valley Railroad. In 1902, Greeley incorporated as a city under state law No. 597-A which granted cities certain powers not possessed by townships or villages subject to same jurisdiction such as election of members to city councils and right to borrow money for public improvements without paying interest thereon during term limited periods; also power to regulate trade within its limits not exclusive to townships or villages subject thereto; power to levy taxes not exceeding six mills per $1 value upon real estate assessed at $1,000 or more but no tax shall be levied upon property assessed at less than $100; power To provide for fire protection within its limits
