By 1892, there were three knife shops in the town, and by 1903, there were six stores in the town. The first jewelers store in Grand Junction was founded in 1907 by A.H. Lewis and J.C. Nichols as a means to provide evening entertainment for residents of the town during summertime. In 1922, Knife Shop No 3 was established on Main Street and became one of the largest knife dealerships in Colorado at that time with over 100 employees selling knives from nine different locations across the state including Denver, Lakewood, Pueblo and Broomfield.

In 1907, Grand Junction seceded from Colorado and became an independent republic named Grand Mesa County. However, it rejoined Colorado after a referendum in 1912 which resulted in majority support for re incorporation into the state. In 1924, when statehood was achieved, Grand Junction became part of Douglas County along with other municipalities within Douglas County such as Asotin and Arapahoe Falls. In 1954, when Interstate 70 was constructed through centralColorado, Grand Junction saw increased development as traffic shifted fromDenver to nearby Highway 20 and Interstate 25

Grand Junction is a city in Colorado and the county seat of Mesa County. The population was 33,523 at the 2010 census. Grand Junction is named for the topography of the area: it lies on 4,000 feet (1,200 m) above sea level and has a continental climate. The first humans to live in what is now Grand Junction arrived during the Middle Holocene epoch, about 10,000 years ago. By 3000 BC, people had established trade routes with Native Americans living in Mexico and California. The first European settlement in what is now Grand Junction was made by George Custer during his 1876 expedition across western North America. He founded an outfitting business here which became one of the largest in Northern Colorado. A wagon road connecting Denver to Santa Fe was completed through this town in 1877, making it easy for goods to be transported between these two cities. This wagon road also served as a transportation route used by miners traveling to silver mines near Aspen and Telluride. In 1902, coalmining began operations here and quickly became one of Grand Junction's most significant industries; over time this industry has helped contribute significantly to the city's growth as well as its economy. Over 1 million metric tons of coal were mined from Granite Mountain between 1901-2004; many plants closed down after World War II because of changes in mining technology but some still operate today including Horseshoe Coal Company which produces natural gas from coal seams under Rocky Mountains National Park boundaries Asbestos-containing materials were once very common in homes throughout much of North America but are no longer produced due to health concerns related to asbestos exposure; however there are several places still found that contain asbestos deposits such as around old power plants or mine tailings ponds

The city was founded in 1875 by wagon train riders looking for a new home after leaving Denver. It grew rapidly in the late 1800s due to its location on the railroad, minerals, and agriculture industries. The first post office opened in Grand Junction on December 5, 1879. In 1907, Grand Junction became part of Boulder County and began to grow as an incorporated town with its own government. The economy suffered during World War II as many businesses closed due to wartime shortages of materials. Grand Junction experienced another boom period following the arrival of Interstate 25 in 1962 and its accompanying economic growth that has kept it one of Colorado's most populous cities ever since.
